Mastercraft 205V Ballast Setup
Ladies/Gents,
My brother has an MC 205V, and we are trying to figure out the best ballast setup. We have plenty of power as we are at sea level and have an upgraded prop (ACME 2195) and engine (MCX). We are more limited by sinking the boat than we are by power. Any suggestions on ballast amount/location would be very helpful! Thanks in advance, Jeff |
Go to wakemakers.com and get the tank buster kit and the bow piggyback kit. Eliminate the rear hard tanks and replace with 750's. Piggyback an ibs off the KGB. This will not be enough weight in front still to run the rear full. I put 100 pounds of lead in the nose and another bag in the bow walkway. If you're not worried about seating get the open bow triangle. This hull likes bow weight.

Do you have a bow filler cushion?

bow weight. the 205V likes a lot of nose weight

Did the 205V have hard tanks? or was that just the X-Star / X2?
I had the same boat and if the platform was buried, the wake got dirty. I've seen a lot of people running 750s in the back, but my boat didn't like quite that much. I think I ran 500s, with a lot of weight in the center and nose. |
Not sure what year but they raised the platform on that hull so it wasn't under while running. You can easily make a couple spacers to get it up a couple inches.

Pull hard tanks, sumo 600s work great, KGB, 400lbs in pop bags under bow cushions and a 750 in the walkway into bow.
|
Good advice - bow weight. We've found 750's in the back, locker sac, sac in the walkway (400lbs?) and the triangle sac on top (maybe fills to 800lbs) throws a great wake.

Seems like the default answer to weight is 750's in the trunk. Jarrod has it right, it's too much in the back and beyond that it doesn't fit there anyways. I had an older 205 and later x1, it was perfect with (I believe they were 550's) in the rear, the stock ski locker sack, and another 500ish in the nose (we used a 440 walkway sack) and a little lead. That boat needs to be weighted evenly front/back. If not more so in the nose.

That is what I do since I don't have the bow filler cushion.
750's in the back lockers, 400 in walk way and the triangle sac on top of that in the bow plus the KGB full. 22.5 MPH at 70 ft rope. |

I run two 600's in the rear lockers, a 150 on each side in front of the rear seat, 375 in the ski locker, 550 in the walkway and a 125 on each side of the bow under the seats. 2675lbs total and the wakeboard wake is so fun! |
