Broken Rear Deck Help/Advice
 

Hi,

Sooo, I've attached a couple photos.
One of the brackets on my swim platform is pretty heavily buggered. I'm looking for a suggestion that DOESN'T involve removing the bracket from the boat. I know this would be the simplest fix.. Remove it, weld it/replace it. Thing is, its a 25 year old boat, there's hairline fractures all around the bracket, and i just really don't want to remove it and potentially cause problems far worse.
Do you think i'm being a bit of a puss and just take it off?

I've been told by someone who can weld aluminium that the bracket needs to come off for him to weld it.

You guys got any thoughts?

If you try welding that ON the boat, your burn/melt/set the boat on fire.

Remove it get it welded and also fix the hairline cracks on the gel coat while it’s off.

Don’t try and ghetto fix it on the boat, it’ll just cause far more problems..

There is no question, take it off and have it repaired or replace it.

JB weld will fix it up like new... just kidding.

Pull it and replace it or weld it. Welder needs to know what he’s doing too!

What’s going on with the bottom of your boat? Looks like it’s rotting from the inside. It almost looks like it was rear ended at some point. Lots of weirdness going on back there with the fracture lines, the brown stuff and what not.

I think the bracket is the least of your worries.

gotta be TIG welded. most competent shops can do it, your neighbor cannot.

agree, you got some water issues back there. inspect the area when you pull the plates off. likely have backing plates so plan on someone to help you.
