Beginner Board - Broadcoast or Shim
 

What is a better beginner board...Hyperlite Broadcast or Shim?

I'm surfing behind a 2016 Malibu LSV with Plug & Play.

Both would be pretty awkward to wakeskate with.

But if you were wakesurfing, the broadcast would be much easier to learn on and be comfortable on than the shim.

Neither. I didn't learn to surf till I got off of the broadcast. Get a Victoria Debut. That lsv with pnp should have tons of push.

Second that. Stay away from the broadcast. Not good by any means. Get something with more of a surf feel to start that will float well and has lots of glide so that you can go ropeless easily (although with your boat it should be no problem).

We have a broadcast, it stinks. Its very heavy, very small fins. It wasn't until I brought one of my surf boards, well ocean surf out that it really even let us learn to really surf. I been wake boarder but now focus more on wake surf. I can say that I have bought several wake surf boards and they didn't work and people didn't like them. My advice is buy a true wake surf board, one that you would see is like an ocean surf board. IMO I surf a chaos board and love it. All my friends love it too. Very cool design and well built and very easy to ride. I also like Inland surfer, and I do like the doomswell. They have those at a local dealership for us here to see. I tell everyone wake boarding and wake surfing is like golf. Whatever set of clubs you want to play with, those are the ones you want to buy, and practice and perfect. You don't want to buy one board, that will soon be boring, or soon decide o I need another set bc I can do better. Buy a board that will last you a while for wake surfing then as you perfect that, then you can move into skim boards if you want that style. IMO stay away from hyperlite, Phase 5 or any of those that mass production. Lot of errors and defects.

broadcast sucks. But I keep a beginner board (Obrien Maha) around to teach people how to get up. I'd rather them not F up my Doomswell trying to learn the basics.

Next for progression is Byerly Hazard. Good all around board that will get people "surfing" - as opposed to hanging out with a rope in their hand. I know some hate compression molded boards, but the shape is undeniable and its held up really well. Great stepping stone between beginner and custom boards.

Then I have a Doomswell and an Inland Surfer for more advanced riders. we have 6 boards that we pick from depending on who's with us and their level of surfing

I agree with you Nachos. Keep a board around for noobs. I let someone smaller ride my chaos board, first weekend I had it. They slammed into the back of the boat, busted the noses not bad, but it makes me mad. Then they said it was already there. No it wasn't, I take pride in my stuff. I keep probably 3-4 boards in the Tahoe and depends who were out with. Cant go wrong with being prepared. This past weekend bunch of kids wanted to learn, I put them on that hyperlite, no way they were riding my nice ones.

So I was looking at a Shim also. I am a big guy. 6'2" almost 220lbs. Advanced wakeboarder and have excellent edging skills. never been much into surfing but want to find a board that is a good Hybrid for surf style and skim. Seems like the Shim would be the ticket. Do any of the other advanced boards you mention have a Hybrid feel to them? Doomswell ? Inland Surfer ? etc.....
