Good quality camera for picture and video
 

Hey fellas,
I am in the market for a good quality camera that will be good for both pictures and videos. I heard DSLRs aren't good for video but maybe a canon rebel t5i could work. The one I have had my eye on was the canon sx 520. Any help would be appreciated my limit is 600-700

It's not a DSLR, but we've had really good luck with our Sony super-zoom for the past few years. Ours is a few years older and only a 30x optical zoom, but I would think something like this would work well for you:

The lenses on those Sony's are pretty damn good for a point and shoot, and it takes very very good video for a camera. Speed is nice and focuses quickly in auto mode. That one I linked above also has a shoe for an external flash which may be useful in some situations. One of the things I liked about that camera is that it has a view-finder (electronic - but better than nothing), as I shoot on snow and in bright sun a bit, so have a hard time seeing the LCD at times on cameras. I also like the larger size, as it makes it a hell of a lot easier to keep a grip and get steady shots. Also has a good burst setting (something like 10 frames in a second at the fastest setting), but takes a little while to load all those pictures after a burst, as opposed to a DSLR where you'd just keep shooting.

I shot 95% of this with Rebel T5i. The only shots not from the rebel were shot with GoPro. You can easily tell which is which.

The challenge with an DSLR for video is that you have to use manual focus. Auto does not work with everything moving. Also, in video mode, you look at the screen, which makes it very challenging to keep in focus. Especially in the sun. So, you'll need to spend another hundred bucks on a loop (view thingy) that mounts to the cam.

I was seeking the same as you.......One camera that does it all well and I've very happy. Sometimes I end up with a blurry vid shot, but that's the way it is. It keeps you on your toes.
