Polishing black Gel coat

The black on the nose of my VTX is getting faded and cloudy. What is the best way to restore this back to it's once shiny self?

My 08 is doing this too, and BAD.

It only sits outside about 3 weeks a year.

I would use some 3M Rubbing Compound finished with Finesse It.

I've had really good luck with the products from this site: Premium Boat Care

The How-To section has some useful information.

I just used the 3M rubbing compound on my supra last week where the black was turning grey and it looks like new now. I did the 3M with a woole pad then waxed and buffet with a polishing pad.

My boat's dark blue gelcoat was super faded/chalky from the sun. After I tried a few rubbing/polishing compounds, which didn't work, I wetsanded the sucker with 1000 grit sandpaper and it made a HUGE difference. I have no idea how many times u can do it w/o taking too much gelcoat off, but one light sanding made my gelcoat look new again.

i have used meguiars 49 and 44. i have a dark blue gel with some discoloration, It works with multiple applications, and requires some sort of buffer to get it looking really good. You can apply by hand, and polish off with a buffer so you wont burn the gel coat. then i apply wax, and polish. Looks good but not perfect when done.
The wet sand absolutely works the best, however be careful, i have had a fiberglass repair guy do it on my last boat , and was basically brand new when it was done. Good Luck.
