2019 Sanger V215s
I picked up a new Sanger V215s comes with 1000lb ballast in both rear lockers and 500 lb in ski locker towards bow. I"m still trying to dial in my surfing wave. I've filled starboard 1000lb and 500lb in the ski locker, with 4 adults on the starboard side, plus driver and got a nice rideable wave. It sure seemed listed and made me a little uncomfortable. I have a swell slim suck gate I'm going to try out this weekend.
Anyone compared the listed Sanger wave vs a suck gate unlisted wave? |
Do you have a surf system on it? I think listed and suck gate of some kind works best. I tried it unlisted and was not impressed. Good luck. I have had my 215 since 04.
|
No didn't get the surf tabs. I'll probably add on this winter. Due to the step in the hull, I'm thinking of placing the suck gate on the bottom part of hull all the way to the back. The swell slim fits in this location nicely but its a bit under the water. Fill up all the ballast and then rotate people to list the boat enough to get the suck gate closer to the water line. I'll try to take some pic/video for others.
|
I have a 2015 - fill both rears to 1,000. I have an extra 100 lbs of lead in each rear side plus another 100 in the bow and 100 in the middle. Use the Nauticurl and get a good wave. No need to list it.
|
Thanks Sanger Tom, I'll try that out. Is that with other people in boat as well or pretty empty?

I fill up the center locker also. The 100 lbs in each rear locker go in the very far corners. The sacks will fill up and rest on them. I then have 50 lbs of lead in the "cooler locker" and opposite that on port side. The other 100 lbs is split in the bow on each side under the seats each side.
I've used the Ronix wake shaper and the Nauticurl. I prefer the Nauticurl but a buddy that has the exact same 2015 V215 likes the Ronix (that's why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream). The nauticurl is set so the top just barely pokes out of the water as far back as I can go. It pops off at times which is pain. We like to run at 11.2 others like to run at 10.5. |
If we run 3 or 4 people, sometimes I will bring a 500 or 750 lb sac and set it on the floor mid-ship or front.
|
Sounds good, I think I got a decent grasp on things to try this weekend with the Swell Slim. I'm probably going to have about 7 to 9 adults in the boat with stock ballasts all filled. I hope that will be enough with the slim suck gate. I'll try to do some comparisons video's.
|
Also Sanger Tom curious what you're using for your lead weight?
|
I ordered from LeadWake.com I think Amazon sells them too. I got 50 lb bags
|
@SangerTom Do you have Surf Plates, if so do you use them in your set up?
|
I don't. Some on the Sanger Boat Owners FB page just had some aftermarkets put on. Waiting to hear about how they work. I'm thinking about it.

I have a 230 so slightly longer hull. I'll post what works for us. water weight: surf side rear locker full: 1100 lbs ski locker full: 350 center walkway sac: 750 lead: 600 lbs spread evenly left to right midship 400 lbs even under bow seats. if we're light on people, i'll move some of the midship lead to the surf side. suck gate on oppo side. yes, your rubrail will be under water while sitting. loop your bilge line up into the top cap or check valve it. all i've ever seen/heard about Sanger's is list the crap out of it and have a good amount of bow weight. Interested to see what an evenly weighted wave looks like. I'll try to find pics of mine, but just replaced hard drive on my laptop so no promises. |
So back from lake.
Setup 10mph 1000lb each rear locker 500lb ski locker 600 lbs people wait in bow 600 lbs people weight surf side rear seats Massive wave but very short. Also if I had all the people in back of boat, I couldn't even get the boat up to speed. It was so bogged down and never got on plane. Felt like I needed more bow weight but wasn't any room left. Next time out I'm going to try 750 in rear lockers so bow to rear weight is a little more balanced. I tried the Swell Slim on bottom step but it was to far under water this weighted. I ended up placing it higher up on the boat right behind sanger lettering. |
In the interest of "more weight = better wave" I used to put a few hundred pounds in oppo side. then I drained all the weight on that side and my wave came to life.
been surfing it like this for 5 or 6 years. before you give up next time, drain the opposite side. my buddy just got a supra sl. it likes rear surf side 100%, oppo 75 to 100%, front 50% and some magical wake plate chit under the boat. Sanger and Supra are NOT the same! drain your opposite side. ZERO weight in rear opposite side. have fun on the water and post a thank you to me later if you remember. Cheers and enjoy the boat PS. yes your rubrail will be in the water. only then will you know it's weighted properly! |
Hence listed like I said. :)

Do you use a wake shaper with this config? |
yes. may not be necessary, but REALLY cleans it up

|
nope

800 lbs lead.
500 midship. sometimes move 200 to 300 to the surf side depending on crew 300 up front split evenly |
Here is the video of my sanger v215s unlisted wave at the lake last weekend. Sorry someone's arm was in the gopro's way but you can kind of see the wave. https://youtu.be/NHxxEY1O5Ao I left the gopro running and killed the battery so I didn't get any video of people riding the wave without rope, but it was possible. However it was a very short pocket.
|
Wave length looks about right. A wake shaper will clean it up. Looks like a lot of white water mid to top (can't tell with the arm there). The rider is to far out of the wave to find the pocket.
|
Here's a listed wave. She's 6' in this onehttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...fad29e3cea.jpg

I'm going to try a few different setups this weekend. I got 300 lbs of lead to work with now. Will try your setup, however I don't have the tabs so we'll see how it goes with the suck gate.
|
Sysurf how many people in boat as well? Where did you sit them?
|

Update, I moved 100 from front to surf side and it helped. I have some video that I'll try to upload later today. |
So back from the delta and we had a surfable wave. I don't think it was very long but this was the setup.
1000lb bag with 200lb lead starboard(surf side) About 750lb bag(3/4 full) port(non surf side) 500lb middle bag 200lb yeti ice chest and 100lb lead in bow 500lb 3 people back surfside Suck gate was not on the lower step of the hull as both sides were pretty weighted. I placed it higher up on the hull where the edge was just cresting the water at resting. I have video will post link in a few. |
Here is my GF riding and me....not sure about her weight....I'm 225lbs. Wave is rideable but I feel like I still need to make the pocket longer. I also feel like I need to get some more riding skills.

I have done 1000lbs surf side and 500lbs middle ski locker and piled a bunch of people on one side. I have not tried just the surf side rear filled. I try that out next time.

you do realize, setting up a boat with tabs and one without will be different, right? |

Someone asked for picture of our wave.
|
Sanger Tom,
that's a proper wave. |
Sangertom. When I fill ballast all the way I can’t get up to speed. I have infant 360. Do have bigger motor?

Crazy Sanger wouldn’t upgrade the prop considering all the weight in ballast. Just got 215s. Straight from factory. I can get amazing wave listing to one side but want to play with swell wake shaper
|
I have front ballast full to. So like 2500 pounds. Any prop recommendations?
|
Acme 911 if you're not concerned with top end

Bennett tabs work great on our 2017 215 XTZ.
Do you have the latest updates from Sanger? |
Quote:
RE: tabs, I feel like they take push out of the wave. How far down do you deploy yours? What is your weight set up? The best wave so far is when we have the boat listed with 1200 lbs back surf locker, 200 lbs upfront and 100 lbs surfside. Sanger went away from the Bennets, the 2020 have GSA tabs. |

I'm no expert so dont flame me but all the guys I know that surf say the DELTA is a hard place to get a good wave due to the water being so shallow .

When you add that much weight to the back need to add more to the front. |
Was thinking both trim tabs down would get it on plane. Then put them back up.

My setup is as follows: Sanger 215xtz (manual adjust center tab) Total ballast: 1000 port 1000 starboard 500 front 725 lead Port Side Setup Surf System on Port 1000 bag full Starboard 1000 bag (approx) 40% full Front bag full 150 lbs lead rear starboard and port 165 lbs lead port side seat storage 65 lbs starboard side seat storage 100 lbs lead port bow seat 100 lbs lead starboard bow seat People on port side 11.2 mph (3 passenger) Starboard Side Setup Surf System on Port 1000 bag empty Starboard 1000 bag full Front bag full 150 lbs lead rear starboard and port 165 lbs lead starboard side seat storage 65 lbs lead port side seat storage 100 lbs lead port bow seat 100 lbs lead starboard bow seat People on starboard side 11.2 mph (3 passenger) |
Bow weight: yes Sangers like it. A Lot.
I ALWAYS run a 750 sac in the walkway on top of full ski locker bag. also have 200 lbs lead up front under the seats |
Pics of wave?
|
Surf gate?
|
yes, surfgate. I need to snap some new pics. found one from last year, but it looks weak. although I did snap it from driver's seat, not hanging off the platform.... posted above ^

Yet to see better wave then this with sanger

Not my wave. It’s a guy that was on here years ago. Denish. He told me how to weight my boat. Around 1300 in surf side locker with sack and lead. opposite side empty. Front ballast full. Don’t know how many people he had in boat. I get the same type and f wave. He might be running more weight in surf corner depending on time of year and f it’s rough or not.
|
If you search you can find him on here awhile back
|
Wonder if that's a v237
|
215
|
I'm going to try and really list this weekend we'll see how it goes. 1300lbs surfside back with middle 500lbs and then seat people where it works best see how it goes.
|
Dont forget, they like weight up front
|
In my experience weight up front weakens wave. Try it though. Even try filling up front stock ballast less
|

|
Yep. Or just fill up 500 half way. Pretty sure my 05 had a 250 intstead of the 500. That’s all I used
|
Manels1111. Put every one in back on surf side.
|
Installing GSA on my Sanger in the next week or so. They have a nice black friday deal on them on one of the big websites. Not sure what the policy of linking other sites is. Has anyone installed perfect pass stargazer s on their sanger before? Is it worth doing over the stock cruise control? Any other upgrades I might consider in the off season. I have the 2019 V215s stock.
|
GSA is waste of time on a 215. we ran the stock 1100 in the rear lockers and the 500 under the floor and it was unsurfable. Added a 900 lb bag in the companionway and a wedge and you could surf it but it wasn't amazing, but it surfed. It was a wallowing pig though and you needed to be careful driving with that much weight. the 215 is a garbage hull for surfing. great for wakeboarding.
|
Quote:
As Louanne said above, 0 opposite side weight. None. Zero. With the boat properly weighted and listed, it absolutely surfs |
owned a 215 for a couple seasons I speak from experience.my local boat deal sold sangers and they spent a lot of time trying to get GSA working the the 215. the consensus was its not worth the time or the money. Suction cup gate and a bunch of weight and it will surf.
