Changed my thermostat

1 Attachment(s)
My boat overheated the first time I took it out this season so I changed the impeller, and thermostat. I took the old thermostat and dropped it in some water on the stove. It didn't open until about 170* and it's a 160* thermostat. While I was in there, I took a picture of the housing. Seems a bit corroded. Does anyone know a fix for this, or is this somewhat normal?

Stop running the boat in water.

That is frigg'ny funny right there. I don't care who you are!
C'mon down and dunk that boat in my neighborhood for a few weeks. I'll show you corrosion!

Thats rich...

To answer your question, It looks just fine. Put it back together and go boating.

Awesome. I figured as much but wasn't sure. I know zincs are used when running in salt water but I'm running on a lake so I didn't figure there was anything really wrong. Thanks again.

So after I changed the thermostat, and the impeller I ran the boat on a plunger style fake a lake (or whatever they're called) and noticed that water didn't come out the starboard exhaust as soon as it did on the port. When it finally did come out it wasn't as much as the port either. It was even a bit sparatic. Could this be my plunger set-up on the garden hose, or maybe a clog somewhere on the port side? Has anyone else had a similar problem?

if your boat is not on level ground this will happen with some boats nothing to be alarmed about. Watch your temp on the fake a lakes they do not provide enough water to cool some times.
