getting quoted 45,800 on a brand new Armada Platinum with no miles before TTL. Sticker is 53650...

any car sales guys out there that can enlighten me at all?

bigd1031 10-22-2009 12:32 PM

Not a car sales man, but search Autotrader and call around to other dealers. Have found some great deals on Autotrader and have gotten a couple of good ones when calling around to other dealers, telling them what I have been offered and asking them to beat it.

Just my 2 cents, which it plus $6 will get you a coffee at starbucks.

chuckc983 10-22-2009 1:26 PM

Send me a PM - I can help you out.

wakereviews 10-22-2009 1:44 PM

PM sent... sorry for the brevity, have my twins with me today

hatepain 10-22-2009 3:34 PM

Eight grand off on a 2010 sounds like a very good deal. What are the rebates they are offering? I really wanna pitch Ford products here but am resisting the temptation!

wakereviews 10-22-2009 6:16 PM

Here was the deal pitched.

2010 Platinum Armada

53650
4000 off incentive
3800 off discount

20,500 in trade on an 06 Armada LE loaded w/ 62k miles and in decent condition.

came out to 29k before TTL. He's also got an 09 demo with 8k miles that he'd do for 24k before TTL.

Just got back and didn't bite on either. I don't mind Ford but I just can't get into the Expedition and I need a big 3 row SUV for the 3 kids and 2 dogs.

kstateskier 10-22-2009 6:20 PM

Wow Ian, only $20,500 for an 06 Armada huh? That really scares me. I've been toying around trading my 07 F-150 FX4 with 59k on it, but am too scared to see what they would offer and it looks like I'm right.

hatepain 10-22-2009 6:29 PM

Ian, thats dead on for average Manheim trade in on those.

azwakekid 10-22-2009 9:01 PM

^^yup thats what i got too

jpuckett 10-22-2009 9:05 PM

How about a Chevrolet Suburban or Tahoe? Why send your money across the water?

(Message edited by JPUCKETT on October 22, 2009)

breazy 10-22-2009 11:34 PM

hey hanger, the armadas are built right here in Mississippi lol, I work at that plant. Its a nice vehicle IMO

jpuckett 10-23-2009 2:22 AM

They are assembled from parts that are imported and the profit is sent back to Japan as well as all the imports in the US.

wakereviews 10-23-2009 4:39 AM

Hangar Pilot, I am open to all large SUVs. My big hang up on the Chevy/GMC is the interior. Love the exterior styling but can't get past the dash and steering wheel. However if the deal is right I would not rule it out.

Also, aren't a lot of GM's parts from overseas too? plus the Tahoe is MORE expensive than the Armada. Have you been in a new Armada? They are very nice.

breazy 10-23-2009 5:15 AM

Parts come from everywhere, The thing to look at is on the front windshield that says how much % of american made parts are on it. I'll go look sunday night to see what it says on the 2010 armadas as they roll off the line.

Honestly even though i'm a die hard chevy fan when it comes to trucks and suv's I would feel more comfortable buying from a company that didn't require a huge bail out.

sailing216 10-23-2009 5:17 AM

We looked at all big suv's and our choice is the GMC Denali with the 6.2. We love the interior of the new chevy/gmc. Light years ahead of the 05's. This coming from a loaded Lexus owner (psst I won't buy Lexus again).

The Armada has little room behind the 3rd row compared to the burb/XL and that was a deal breaker for us. Your trade-in sounds right. If we need a cheap used truck, an Armada is on our list as we just saw an 05' SE (mid-grade) for $16.9k

If Chevy would put a diesel into the burb I wouldn't need to look around. I still consider the 05' excursion but blah on the interior. Buy USA, you can get a new steering wheel ect...

wakereviews 10-23-2009 5:32 AM

I'm not against a Denali but they are out of my price range. Think I could find a 2010 Denali for 45k? This same dealer also has a loaded 09 Armada with 8k miles on it, never titled that I think I can get for 40k. The Denali's seem a lot more expensive. Plus, we can respect a difference of opinion i'm sure but I do not like the dash of the GM Tahoe/Yukons and interior is a stickler for me.

illini88 10-23-2009 6:07 AM

I personally am partial to the GMC, but given his current Nissan, he's likely to do somewhat better on trade with a Nissan dealer than with a Chevy or GMC dealer.

johnsvt 10-23-2009 6:31 AM

I haven't looked at Manheim, but that seems like a lot for the trade.

sailing216 10-23-2009 6:39 AM

yeh you gotta sit in the interior for a long time so it's a big part. You'll probably will get better value from a Nissan dealer like SS said.
I'd look hard at the demo if it hasn't been towing. Good luck

breazy 10-23-2009 6:46 AM

Hangar according to http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/staticfiles/DOT/NHTSA/Traffic%20Injury%20Control/Articles/Associated%20Files/AALA/AALA2009p.pdf the suburban, tahoe, yucon's and armada/qx56 are all 65% american/canadian parts. The expedition has 70% american/canadian parts. At this point they're all equally american made in my eyes, now its up to the buyer to purchase the one that fits their needs the best.

OnlyInboards - If you went armada what color would you be getting, The metal flaked(small flake) black and deep red/maroonish are the best looking colors on those imo.

wakereviews 10-23-2009 6:59 AM

it would be black most likely, that is what I have now and I like black cars... i pretty much only buy black cars. Just found an 09 on eBay for 37k with only 1500 miles. that might be too good to pass up.

breazy 10-23-2009 7:12 AM

Thats an awesome deal. I'd love to have one, only problem is I have no immediate need lol. Its a solid vehicle and if you have any questions as to how they're put together i'll be glad to help as much as i can without violating company policy

hatepain 10-23-2009 10:09 AM

Ian, I shot you and email it's from my work so its possible it could go into junk.

tro 10-23-2009 5:48 PM

wow. 53K msrp for a nissan? i didn't realize those things were that expensive. i haven't been inside a nissan in years - they must have taken a huge leap with luxury/style since i owned a nissan to be charging 53K for one. i couldn't imagine paying that much for one.

kstateskier 10-23-2009 5:58 PM

tro, have you done any car shopping lately? A loaded Ford pickup will push $50k. The Nissan's are getting better all the time. Finally they are paying a little attention to interior. That has always been my hangup with them.

I love the "Buy American" guys. As mentioned above, I guess they have never seen the Nissan plant in Mississippi and have no real idea about economics. Ever heard of a publicly traded company? You and I could own part of Nissan, which really means the money is coming back to the US. I would assume there are some nicely paid execs in Mississippi that buy houses, cars, boats, etc. and further put money into the US economy. The whole US vs. Jap car thing is so skewed these days anyone that brings it up is stuck in the 80s.

tro 10-23-2009 6:02 PM

i haven't shopped for a truck for myself in about 2 years, but a loaded crew cab 1/2 ton chevy ltz 4x4 was $46K MSRP last time i bought one. i have seen some loaded 1/2 tons for $49-$50K MSRP.

if the nissan's are paying more attention to the interior, then i guess it's possible. last time i owned one, the interiors were crap. that was a long time ago, so i guess they are changing their customer base some.

(Message edited by tro on October 23, 2009)

wakereviews 10-23-2009 6:22 PM

check it out yourself. I sat in the Ford, Chevy and GMC today... Nissan was the nicest.

Armada had bluetooth, 9.2 gb hard drive for music, ipod interface in screen, heated seats and steering wheel, rear camera, front and rear sonar, keyless entry/ignition, it's got everything. Plus it's much larger than the Expedition and Tahoe/Yukon.

However I have my 06 paid off so trading one Armada in for another I'm beginning to think might not be a good idea yet. Maybe get a year with no car payments first

tro 10-23-2009 6:27 PM

geez. those are a lot nicer than i thought. good to see the company focusing on luxury and changing some of their focus. good luck with the purchase.

kstateskier 10-23-2009 6:29 PM

Going to the LED lighting in '08 helped a lot. The '07 dash was boring!!! Still don't dig the console much for a $50k plus vehicle, but definately much better. Still think Ford is doing a better job on interior. The new F150 is amazing! Wish it had the power of the Nissan!

tro 10-23-2009 6:35 PM

i think the Chevy interiors are far and away nicer than the Ford interiors. that nissan is nicer than i thought. i wouldn't buy one, but i have no use for an SUV.

kstateskier 10-23-2009 6:38 PM

I don't really agree. I do think the Chevy interior is nice, but I think the '09 Ford is nicer, just my opinion. Close enough it's totally preference.

wakereviews 10-23-2009 6:38 PM

yeah, the interior on the F150 is nice... on the Expedition... not so much.

IMO, the only ones who really have the console dialed in on the SUV is the Caddy.

Here are the consoles for the Caddy and Tahoe/Yukon

wakereviews 10-23-2009 6:40 PM

here's the Expedition, just looks too thrown together to me, to cluttered.

05mobiuslsv 10-23-2009 6:50 PM

Caddy and the Tahoe/Yukon take the cake.

rio_sanger 10-23-2009 7:18 PM

Ever since the the Armada first came out, it has reminded me of these.
I have never been able to look at one since without a little chuckle...

kstateskier 10-23-2009 7:18 PM

The console on the dash around the Navi looks upside down on the Expedition.

wakereviews 10-23-2009 7:23 PM

haha Chris... you are right!

rio_sanger 10-23-2009 7:41 PM
...I'm sure it's a great car, I just have a hard time getting that image out of my head

(Message edited by rio_sanger on October 23, 2009)

(Message edited by rio_sanger on October 23, 2009)

boomshot 10-23-2009 7:45 PM

I loooooove the Armada.

Test driving one this weekend with the family.

Potential new vehicle to tow the all white 247 or all white SAN 240.

cbk 10-23-2009 7:52 PM

Assuming your Armada is 4WD...

cbk 10-23-2009 8:12 PM

Also...if you get me the VIN, I'll get the invoice and all available incentives for you.

lakesurfer 10-25-2009 9:40 AM

Take a look at the new Lincoln Navigators. Great towing capacity (not as much as Armada) and has 3rd row fold down flat automatic seats. The interior is also much cleaner than Expedition.

kstateskier 10-25-2009 10:54 AM

Guys, read the posts, he is not looking in the Cadillac/Navigator price range. If he was I'm sure he would be looking at the Infinity.

lakesurfer 10-25-2009 11:59 AM

I will be willing to bet you could buy a new 2009 Navigator for +/- $50K. For example, here is a Lincoln L Navigator listed for $53.7K:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-2009-NAVIGATOR-7-PASS-ELITE-PKG-ROOF-NAV-REAR-ENT_W0QQitemZ260494860977QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Car s_Trucks?hash=item3ca6b422b1

(Message edited by lakesurfer on October 25, 2009)

tro 10-25-2009 12:47 PM

wow. that thing is hideous..inside and out. and 2wd at that.

lakesurfer 10-25-2009 1:53 PM

tro - not the color or interior I would buy either (just used the 1st example I found). But you could find a black on black that would look good. They list for $58K-$62K and you can get nearly $10K off most of them.

tro 10-25-2009 3:18 PM

i hear ya - to each their own. in my personal opinion, the entire outside and inside of that truck is hideous, and not just because of the color. i have no use for an SUV though, much less one that is 2wd.

if you're shopping for a tow vehicle and gonna pay $58k-$62k for a 2wd vehicle, you might as well just bend over.

kmcginty 10-25-2009 5:27 PM

i know this isnt relevant, but that I wouldnt drop 25 on that ugly ass Nav. I would drop alot more on some of the older ones, say the 06-08's that arent that ugly (let alone 2wd. That looks like they pulled all the unused navigator parts out of the bin and threw that crap together.

end rant.

ps, i heart denali

andrewjet 10-25-2009 8:54 PM

Hey onlyinboards. We just bought a 06' Armada, and also have 04' G35/Infinity. both are greatt vehicles. My boat puller and work truck is a 97' Jeep Grand..Im a jeep guy! but the g and the Armada have changed my mind away from buying a newer Jeep. the Armada is peppy as hell, 3-rows of seats and it looks like a tank. We love ours. BUY IT! Jet

hbskier 10-29-2009 1:07 PM

Andrew - I've got the exact same set up '06 Armada and '04 G35 6MT sedan...you don't have a '93 Prostar 190 too do you? I was always a GM or Toyota guy, but I love both of these cars and was hot after the z71 'Burb. The Armada is SO much faster than the 'Burb or the Expedition, brakes are better and it doesn't feel like it's going to roll over when cornering and the Sequoia at the time had a dated dash that reminded me of our old '94 4Runner. I would prefer the interior of the newer Armadas and the power in the G37s...but we've never had a hint of an issue with either. Tough to want to move on.

andrewjet 10-29-2009 1:13 PM

No 190 but I do have a 89' supra/custom Tower/1600 lbs's! Love them all! check my username

wakereviews 10-29-2009 1:16 PM

Yeah, I have an 06 Armada too... those new ones are SOOOO nice on the inside it's crazy. I almost pulled the trigger on the one i found for 37k but later found out the OEM in dash screen did not have NAV and the dvd entertainment system was aftermarket... which kind of killed it for me.
