Comparing boats-need some help
 

2003 Calabria Pro-V v. 2000 Tige Riders edition v. 2001 Malibu Wakesetter

I am looking at all three of these boats to buy I have riden Tige's and Wakesetters but never the Calabria can I get some other opinions on which would be the best boat and sickest wake?

Thanks man, that is what I was thinking. We have come down to the Wakesetter and the Tige. I am a first time boat owner...always been on them, never owned one. So I am trying to find which would be my best bang for the buck.

all 3 are great boats. I was really close to buying a Calabria once. I really liked the way their ballasts filled and emptied so fast. All I can tell you is we recently bought the Wakesetter and couldn't be more happy with everything about it. I don't know if that really means anything but we love it and we have had several different riders ride behind it and everyone has been happy. We love the ride, the wake, the interior, everything. I'm definitely not knocking the other boats because they are great but I know my vote would be for the Malibu.

The Calabria looks to be a good buy, have you looked at it?

The Tige' probably has a Marine Power. but what are the power plants and transmissions and hours on the boats?

The Wakesetter is probably the best of the 3, but if it has 1500 hours on it compared to 300 on the others, it would be worth thinking on it a bit more.

Johnny, I owned a 97 Tige' and there is a HUGE difference between 97 98 and 2000.

I agree with the CC! ohh that's not on the list. Go with the WAKESETTER it's all in the name. You'll look like a *** in the other two.

The Tige has 485 hours one owner and all service done and the best looking (as far as gelcoat shape and interior shape) of the three

The Wakesetter has 490 really good shape. Services all up to date.

The Calabria is 250 hours has an issue with the PP (but could just be user issue) and vinyl has seen better days.

Mostly the changes to the hull: spray pockets, gunnel height, transom shape and a much deeper "V" in the hull. Prior to that they were essentially a slalom boat. They still sit low in the water though and will eat rollers over the bow like no other boat. I believe 2000 was an almost complete redesign of all of Tige's boats. The 2000 is not a bad year or hull at all.

I think based on the numbers you posted, I'd lean wakesetter. Gel coat is easily polished up, so even if it looks REAL bad, it usually is only a day of work from being not bad. What kinds of pricing?

Wakesetter $22000 - has no wedge but does have the MLS and no PP
Tige $20000 has PP and ofcourse the TAPS
Calabria $22000

1- calabria because I own one and they are great boats, good wake monster interior, lots of storage.
2- wakesetter never been in one or ridden behind one but people have great things to say about them.(might lean twords this one if you are stickly wakeboarding)
3-tige cousin has a 99 I don't like the wake or the handling of the boat

are you looking for a strictly wakeboarding boat, or a boat that you can wakeboad behind but also have a buch of friends and hang out in party cove in?

Looking for a mostly wakeboard/surf boat to have a good time with friends.

Also new in the picture that just came up locally is a 05 Ski Centurion Cyclone with very low hours and same price range....Any feedback on these?

Ya Scott I actually live right by that place and went and checked that boat out. The trailer was in shambles and needed a lot of work and the boat itself was decent nothing fancy definitely needed a little cleaning up and it didn't have the ballast options on it and if I remember right the tower might have had some cracks in it...Looked at so many now can't remember for sure.

Any way you could look for a late 90's Super Sport or SAN? You will save some coin and have non-arguably best wake in boats of that era. All three of those sound a little overpriced for the make and models. The wakesetter is probably close to value, but the Tige' is about 1-2k overpriced and the Calabria is probably 4-5k too high from a private party sell.

Jared....The '99 Tige' is a different boat than the 2000.

The second one is a 99 and is probably one of the most desirable models as it is before the touch pads. It is overpriced though. It should be more around 18-19k.

Is the wakesetter a v-drive ?

Brian one more thing: on the SANs that are being posted, you really don't need to worry about the factory ballast. It's crap. You will be pulling it out and putting in bags anyway. Use it as a negotiation point with the dealers. That and lack of cruise control of some sort.

I don't think your going to find one for that price. I think Calabria price is the most reasonable of the 3.

I do however agree with you that given those choices i think i would go with the VLX. It has a very fun predictable wake,
and is just an al around solid boat.

Yeah I think on those 3, it would be a heavy weight. I would keep looking though, b/c there are some other boats in that price range that are non-arguably better suited for what he is looking for.
