Just curious how far some of you have driven to get your boats? I'm looking at a 650 mile one way trip.

yosquire 09-19-2006 7:07 AM

230 miles each way.

atropine 09-19-2006 7:40 AM

1306 miles each way. Did the round trip (including test drive of the boat) in 52 hours.

acurtis_ttu 09-19-2006 7:46 AM

300 ish one way

roughrivermike 09-19-2006 7:53 AM

bear 09-19-2006 7:56 AM

1,328.2 miles ONE WAY! I drove from San Diego, CA to Dallas/Fortworth TX. I as well drove round trip like Sam. Well worth the savings. Lets see.... couple hundred in gas mony vs saving around 15 - 20 grand. Yeah, no brainer for me!

hamkj 09-19-2006 7:57 AM

30 hours round trip. i do this every two years

dizzyg 09-19-2006 7:58 AM

about 2 miles to the launch, they dropped it off for me!

acurtis_ttu 09-19-2006 7:59 AM

WALKED 3 BLOCKS TO THE MARINA WHERE THE TIGE DEALER WAS LOCATED

yosquire 09-19-2006 8:14 AM

Must have been hell walking back dragging a boat. I would have used a truck...but that's just me...always looking for the easy way out.

(Message edited by yosquire on September 19, 2006)

1st boat picked up on the way back from snow skiing which was on our way home but is probably somewhere around 300 miles. last one was 250 each way.

jmanolinsky 09-19-2006 8:40 AM

350 miles round trip.

denverd1 09-19-2006 8:48 AM

300 each way

wakeprodigy 09-19-2006 9:11 AM

I drove 1,685 miles each way. Don't know if it was worth the drive, but I love my boat and i was visiting family so it all worked out.

ronskal 09-19-2006 9:17 AM

About 1200 miles round trip and worth it based on my $$ savings since Texas is high for the inboard market and Kansas is more normal.

Plus it was darn fun with all the anticipation and we made a boating weekend out of it.

I would do it again although I would not like to tow much further than that.

ontrider2 09-19-2006 9:46 AM

About 2170 miles round trip. Still saved money and saw a bunch of cool stuff along the way!

heem 09-19-2006 9:47 AM

Could have drove 8 miles but there is a reason I drove 120 miles instead.
My good friend "Price" and his buddy "Service"!

sid 09-19-2006 10:35 AM

1100 miles round trip a couple of years ago. 1700 ish to get the family owned 81 Nautique. Would do both again in a heartbeat. A good boat is worth the travel.

malibuboarder75 09-19-2006 11:16 AM

650 miles to georgia from louisiana, then 1000 miles from georgia to Texas.

bfa 09-19-2006 11:23 AM

About 1000km each way from Kelowna to Edmonton. Picked it up in March on what happened to be one of their worst snow storms of the year. My husband looked pretty funny pulling a boat through a couple of feet of snow. Luckily it was fine about 1 hour out of Edmonton.

talltigeguy 09-19-2006 11:29 AM

120 miles on my first boat (one way). The second boat he brought to my driveway.

slipknot 09-19-2006 11:29 AM

3,042 miles.

San Diego, CA to Goddard, KS

left Friday 3pm, back on Sunday 6pm. (with the help of a friend)

I will do it again in a few years or less.

The savings is worth the loss of sleep when you live in California.

wakemaniac69 09-19-2006 12:05 PM

1,650 miles round trip Calgary Alberta, Canada to Winnepeg Manitoba Canada, about 28 hours drive. Best road trip ever. We had a blast and stopped at the lake house on the way back for a day of riding to show my brother the new surprise. He had no idea that I bought a new boat, much less road tripped it with his best buddy. He was more stoked than I was.

First boat it was nothing 160 miles RT, next boat was 600 miles RT on my birthday... Happy Birthday to me!!!

byrd 09-19-2006 4:01 PM

Zero, my MC Dealer delivered it to me

bear 09-19-2006 4:22 PM

adam the dealers around san Drego wanted 60 too 65 k for a new VLX when I was shopping. I ended up finding one with everything I wanted (loaded) in Texas for 55. After talking with them for awhile I ended up getting it down too just over 45 out the door. One thing though the boat had about 10-15 hrs on it so technically it wasn't brand new. thats why I was able to get It down and it was even the colors i wanted

timmy 09-19-2006 4:47 PM

I got my boat about 5 miles from my parents' lakehouse, which was about 160 miles from where I was living at the time.

dubsac 09-19-2006 4:54 PM

60 miles each way

atropine 09-19-2006 6:13 PM

That's funny how those of us near the west coast have been driving to Kansas to get good boat deals. I got mine in suburban Kansas City. But I have seen some nice deals on used boats in California, too. And they are usually in very nice shape.

jgrunow 09-19-2006 6:54 PM

Flew from Orlando to Detoit round trip on Wednesday - $300
Car Rental - $35
Shipping (Boat arrived in Driveway Saturday Morning) - $1,000
Total - $1,335

Saved myself 2400 miles, lots of time, and fuel....money well spent and great deal on boat. This was 2 years ago, probably more to ship these days.

pittsy 09-19-2006 7:11 PM

Less than 20miles both ways.

tanner 09-19-2006 9:48 PM

450 miles

klpnautique 09-19-2006 10:37 PM

450 miles each way (with a FAT hangover after my cousin's wedding that I was in that ended in a Streets of Reno street brawl that I had nothing to do with)just to look at it, and then another 450 each way to pick the little piggy up....does that count as 1800 round trip???

ttuclint 09-19-2006 11:14 PM

1200 miles round trip. Lubbock, TX to Houston.

Saved probaby 5,000 dollars or so.

jimzgirly 09-20-2006 1:58 PM

650 Miles round trip, from Los Angeles to San Jose. But we saved probably around 10k

leaks 09-20-2006 3:21 PM

Craig; Who needs to walk back dragging a boat? I just drove it to my dock !

Robb; You can stop laughing now.

bennygoodx 09-20-2006 4:00 PM

My MC dealer delivered it to me--even brought a pro-rider to show what the dang thang can do.

wakeslife 09-20-2006 4:04 PM

Same as Ben, about 50 miles, minus the pro-rider.

boarder_x 09-20-2006 6:00 PM

Greg,

I wasn't laughing at you. I figured that's what you meant. ... His sarcasm was perfect though. I couldn't stop laughing.

... Sorry.

rmitchell 09-20-2006 6:23 PM

300 mi round trip. No dealers in southwestern indiana. Good dealership experience though.

kstateskier 09-20-2006 6:56 PM

I didn't know Kansas was such a popular boat sales mecca!

slipknot 09-20-2006 6:57 PM

kansas is a haven, values are low, especially when the guy you buy from has a new one.

malibupilot 09-20-2006 10:09 PM

My last boat was from SoCal to Santa Rosa... turn around in 9 hours. Long day.

derf1956 09-21-2006 7:02 AM

3700 round trip Pryor,OK to Stockton,Ca and back.
Thurs 1 PM - Mon 2AM. (This last weekend) I think it was worth it. I saved a bunch on a 2007 Calabria, it wasn't my dream boat but it is a v drive and a definite improvement over my I/O

bdavis 09-21-2006 8:55 AM

Raleigh, NC to Saugus, CA 2545 miles but I paid someone else to drive it.

audiopro74 09-21-2006 6:12 PM

Not my boat, but once went from Stockton Ca. to Austin Tx. with a friend to pick one up.

sloppy 09-21-2006 6:45 PM

1300 miles. Flew from RI to Orlando on a Friday night. On Sat, I took delivery and met the shipper who was towing it back the 1300 miles. flew back later that evening and when I woke up on Sunday morning the boat was in the driveway!
