Is a Viper 8.1L motor 420 HP overkill in a 22ft. boat. I'm looking to purchase a 2002 MB 220V. It has this motor. Any feedback about this motor/boat combo would be greatly appreciated. Reliability? Maintenance costs? etc. Thank you

420 hp isn't an overkill in any wakeboard boat these days.

if your planning on surfing or doing some heavy wakeboarding..do itttt

the ZR6 (375 hp) is fine for that boat, the Viper is overkill unless you are running 4000 lbs, my guess is that it would suck up a bunch of gas as well. I dont know for sure though.

Sure it's not the volvo 8.1? It'd be interesting to see what they would have to do to a viper engine to marinize it.

A boat can have too much horse power just like a bank account can have too much money. Wait what?
