dough_boy 08-11-2010 8:19 AM

Do you remember what canyon that tree is in? I would love to check that out.

somebuddy 08-11-2010 8:35 AM

Just got back on Monday. Eveyday was good except Saturday it rained all day. My sis-in-law had the camera so I'll try to get ahold of the pics and throw them up here.

downfortheride 08-11-2010 9:21 AM

I'm also interested where that tree is, kind of cool.

Russell ~~ Where did you guys end up camping?

this is from a trip i took in 1999 or 2000. my only trip there, but my favorite trip.

somebuddy 08-11-2010 9:58 AM

Josh - we usually stay on Lone Rock beach, but we stayed in a Hotel in Page this year because we have a small baby. My parents were camping on the beach with the boat, trailer, and quads so we just met them every morning.

downfortheride 08-11-2010 10:37 AM

Russell ~~ Nice... We just stopped my lone rock and I was surprised to see the dirt toys going off. What a perfect place to enjoy all the toys on the same trip.

Wake ~~ Great pic, BOOTED!

That tree is on the main channel a few miles up-lake from Rainbow Bridge. it is on the left side as you are traveling up-lake/river. pretty much just look for a dark arrowhead looking thing above the full-pool-white line. The pic was taken back in 2005... so... i can't promise that the tree is still there, but i immagine it would be.

alright,

I'm gona be a real "jerk" on these ones... mostly because i don't have any better resolution of these. they were taken by a friend of a friend of a friend...of my dad's
There was a quick crazy rainstorm about a week ago. i saw the same rainbow but from wahweap area instead of gunsight and padre. i did not have a camera though. it was absolutely spectacular. it had a clear double rainbow and everything (not really visible in the photos... as usual, no justice in photos). anyway, i'll stop there before someone digs their fist in my shoulder or calls me a 3 letter word.

Is that a Double effin rainbow????

kslakebum 08-12-2010 11:34 AM

That is a DOUBLE Rainbow!

GO HAWKS!!!!

wakerider111 08-12-2010 11:37 AM

i can barely see the remnants of the double rainbow in kelley's, and just barely in the one i posted too. i swear there is something about cameras that just cant pick up the second 'bow... but then again i am not much more than your typical point-and-shoot kind of guy, so what do i know about capturing colors of rainbows with a lense? ;)

cjh1669 08-12-2010 1:01 PM

WE are heading there tomorrow. Anyone know of any great coves for camping and boarding close(a reasonable distance) from bull frog?

downfortheride 08-12-2010 1:24 PM

Chris ~~ Some of the best riding and camping can be found in Halls Creek Bay. It's usually busy since it's the closest from BF.

cjh1669 08-12-2010 1:26 PM

Sucks that it's busy, Kind of want to find a secluded cove with some room to ride within it. I guess we could go 20-30 miles out

downfortheride 08-12-2010 1:46 PM

Chris ~~ The only problem is that area is sheer cliffs and the wakes never go away! Hall Creek is big and has some shore line in the back where you can get a decent early morning ride. Problem is everybody else wants it to. Get plenty of pics to share! The more up lake you go the less and less people you will see. Good luck on the trip!

lffish133 08-12-2010 1:48 PM

So we should head north more than south?

downfortheride 08-12-2010 2:03 PM

Chris ~~ I can't say for camping but if you head north you will have a few more canyons to search, if I'm not mistaking I see more people heading north then I do going south. North opens up to Good Hope Bay which is super nice but south also opens up to a bay about half the size of Good Hope. Either way N or S 20 - 30 miles your going to love the trip. Have you been to Powell before?

cjh1669 08-12-2010 2:06 PM

Yeah quite a few times, just haven't been through bull frog in about 10 years. Can't really remember where all the good spots are. We usually drive the extra 2 hours to page, where my buddy has a house boat. It's going to be a great trip, super excited.

kslakebum 08-12-2010 2:12 PM

Try out Iceberg Canyon, we would camp there when we went out of Bullfrog in years past.

bruizza 08-12-2010 2:37 PM

Iceberg canyon is looking legit! How far is it from the closest marina? The Axis uses a lot of gas!

milehighrider 08-12-2010 5:23 PM

better take a lot of cans!! its not that close. about 45minutes at 28/30mph headed out there on the 28th and can't wait

downfortheride 08-12-2010 5:58 PM

Mike you going to BF or the AZ side? Were heading down on the 27th - 29th for their rail comp at antelope point.

bruizza 08-13-2010 7:41 AM

We are taking 8, 5 gallon gas cans so we will have almost an extra tank of gas.

cjh1669 08-13-2010 8:30 AM

Right now we got 3, hopefully we will get the other 5...

somebuddy 08-16-2010 3:11 PM

Josh, where are those sliders? is that at Wahweep or Bullfrog?

downfortheride 08-16-2010 4:18 PM

Russell ~~ Neither... There at Antelope Point Marina just out of Page, AZ.

I guess you would have to go through The Narrows to get there! I hate The Narrows!

Since the cut has been open I avoid Antelope Point Marina like the plague!!

The cut!
http://www.deseretnews.com/photos/midres/5628562.jpg

Antelope Point Marina is the south yellow dot and the cut is the north yellow dot!

It would be awesome if people could include either buoy mile markers or gps coordinates with their pictures unless they want them to remain secret.

milehighrider 08-16-2010 6:59 PM

headed out of BF! would love to go down but thats a long way from there

Powell is the most beautiful lake I have ever seen in my life.

nuckledragger 08-16-2010 9:00 PM

The Castle Rock cut through is a life saver. Its saves you hours and a washing machine ride through the Narrows. The engine on our houseboat died on a trip through the narrows once. Almost ended up against the canyon wall but saved it with the wake boat.

Love Powell, best place in the world.

downfortheride 08-17-2010 8:55 AM

The castle cut is a life saver when were staying at the marina in Antelope, believe it or not the narrows has been a super place to ride since the boat traffic is 0. Most people don't have a reason to use the narrows so it's a long enough run to get about 2 or 3 tired and still have good water on the way back.

Anybody that is down there on Aug 28th their having a rail comp at the Marina... Come check it out or come ride! If you search antelope point marina on Facebook, the first 5 to confirm they will be there will get their entrance fee waived. Last time I checked there was still 3 spots open.
