What is the verdict on the 5 blade props?
I remember them coming out a few years back but haven't heard much about them since. Anyone having good luck with them?

never tried one, but the consensus was they were nothing special to justify the higher costs. $800 prop? no thanks. My 3 blade will pull my arms with moderate weight. Of course its 10.5 pitch but we run quite a bit

I sold my OJ cinco as it didnt fit well with my wakeboarding needs. Thats said i heard its good for surfing, but i needed to go faster than 18 mph and it would NOT plane out... ACME 2315!

At low pitches you want fewer blades to get enough surface area facing back. A 3 blade is better at 11" pitch and a 4 blade is at 15" pitch. Five blades might help at higher pitches but the prop design always makes a difference. On my sterndrive, I got better performance from a vented 4 blade at 21" than I did from a High5 at that pitch and a five blade should be effective in that range.
If you have a 1:1 drive you don't want one, for sure. |
I still use mine to this day, I think it's been 3 years or so. Best prop in the world. I surf with lower rpms then before and the boat is very happy all around. My max speed went down, but I never go that fast. I can surf with 4k in ballast and a large crew and the boat holds speed fine at 3,000 rpms. My motor is a 340hp marine power in my Tige 24v.
