Whats your Rpm while surfing
 

Just curious what other people are seeing for RPM while under load for surfing.

Post your speed, weight of ballast, boat, engine and of course RPM.

I run a Tige Z3 with the 6.0l, 2300 lbs ballast, 10.8-11 mph and 3000 rpm.

I run 2500 pounds, plus wedge, 10.-10.3 mph & am at 3,000 to 3,100 rpm. 2002 wakesetter with 5.7

Indmar 5.7 ETXCAT, 1915lbs ballast, + 500lbs (3 Adults in the boat) , 11.x mph and 2900rpm, Supra 21V

PCM 343......2000lbs.......plus people (round 500lbs usually) 11.2 mph and 3200-3400RPM

Rpms have more to do with transmission ratio and prop than engine. The engine rpms won't change between big and small engines if the other variables are the same.

2012 supreme v226, Indmar Assault 345 ETX CAT 5.7, 11.2mph, 2800lbs ballast + few people in the boat, 5 blade prop, 3000-3200rpms. before the 5 blade prop i was around 3500rpm +. Completely different pull with the 5 blade prop.

3k in ballast. 2900-3100 rpms at 12.2-12.5. 5 blade prop saved me, before I was turning 3500.

Shawndoggy that is not the point of this topic. I do realize there are many different transmission ratios, v drive gearing, props etc. I just have been in many different boats and have seen an array of different RPM. This equates to different fuel consumption, different pull, some of the higher rpm make for prop wash on surf wake etc. So just curious as to what others are seeing.

But the prop is definitely a factor (the biggest?) in prop wash, not merely the rpms you are turning. Two different props can turn similar RPMs but have different impacts on the wave.

For the record, we run about 3500lbs, PCM EX343, Acme 2315 and get about 3100-3400 rpms depending on speed and number of people in the boat. We run 11.5 to 13 mph. wave is clean as a whistle. Running heavy we are probably in the 7-8 gph range.

Not arguing with you at all. Just curious as to what other people are seeing with there setups.

We run the 2315 on ours as well. Good prop for surfing. Not as good for Wakeboarding.

2K ballast, 2900-3100 rpms. 10.4-11mph. 09 Tige 22ve with the 343 PCM Excalibur.

Sorry we run the 1235 prop.

21 Tomcat, PCM 343, 2079 prop, 3k weight, 12 mph 3,4-3,500 rpm

'14 Supra SA. 6.2 LS3 450, 2,500 lbs ballast, 3 passengers, 1235 prop, 10.3 mph - 2,450 rpm. This was with the swell system set to barrel which is the setting I use with the tabs most deployed. The interesting thing is I turned off the swell and the rpm's went to 2,700. Not sure why they increased with the swell off.

Jkaser, from what I understand about the swell is that it is similar to Gen2 or regular trim tabs. Tabs create lift thus should reduce RPM. The lift makes it easy to switch side to side but in reality besides waht marketing tells you, it sacrifices the wake quite a bit.

I used a Supra SA550 while in florida and listing the boat with standard practice yielded the best surf wake with the longest lip and most power. It actually quite resembled our tige wake. With the surf tabs deployed you would get a more mellow wake that could "barrel" but no near the same force or long lip that a listed boat produced. The Tabs were handy for cleaning up the wake though if both used at the same angle.

Thanks Tristan for that explanation. It does lift my swim platform up when I engage the barrel setting.

I had a '13 SA without the swell system and my experience is that my wake is way better than my listed '13. I might not have had it dialed in but my '14 with Swell is 10X better.

Jeff I wish I could remember the weight setup we used. It was way back in April and I do not know where my notes are.

I do not know how the wake is on a non swell SA. I do find the swell plates on there own help lengthen the face of the wave even when not engaged. So I do agree that the swell plates are a good option. I just found that we could make one hell of a wave by listing that boat over to make that long face and long lip that we like. It turned out very similar to our Tige's we run and it was very hard to tell the difference between the two waves. I was very impressed with the supra wake.

2014 G21 409 - Stock Ballast (2850lbs) - 50% Fuel - two Adults in the Boat -

10.8mph - 3000RPM
11.5mph - 3200RPM

So much fun with the new surf system and only have to use stock ballast for a good Wake.

05' Centurion SV230. about 1800lbs of ballast and 2 adults some times 3 so may be another 570lbs. trim tab 30%, 11.3mph, 2800-2900rpm, 5.7 Black Scorpion

2008 'bu 247 with 6.2l hammerhead. 10.4-11.2mph. Roughly 2800+/- 300rpm. Wedge down, stock ballast full on surf side, center and front.

2004 Avalanche 350 mpi, 2600 plus pounds of ballast plus people,(usually 3-4) run at 11.2- 11.4 mph and RPM shows 2800, running a 3 blade 911 prop with a 1:1 ratio transmission

2013 Tige Z3, PCM 343, 3800lbs of ballast plus people (usually 2-3), ACME 1235, Taps at 2-3, Run at 11.8mph, 3000rpm. I always start with a full tank.
