Our New 2016 Supra SE

3 Attachment(s)
My family’s new 2016 Supra SE 450 has officially arrived, and we said goodbye to our 2014 G23. Getting rid of the G was a hard choice, but we are in love with our new Supra. We have just been breaking it in so far, so we haven’t been able to play around with the wake yet. I have an extra 450 lbs of lead wake ballast to put in on top of the 3200lbs of stock ballast once the engine is broken in, and I can’t wait! I’ll be able to provide a detailed comparison of the two boats down the road if anyone is interested. In the meantime, here are some pictures!

Great looking ride!

Why did you make she switch? Just ready for something different?

That was my question. You beat me to it.

There were a few things that made us want to make the switch. Back when we were test driving our G23 a few years ago, we also test drove a 2014 Supra SA. We loved the way the the SA drove, but in terms of wake performance, the G had it beat, hands down. The G also had that “Wow” factor that the SA could not match. Needless to say, we went with the G. Don’t get me wrong, we loved our G23, and while it produced amazing waves, it really was not that enjoyable to drive. After a long day of wakeboarding and surfing, it just wasn’t the best cruising around watching the sunset kind of boat. Coming from a long line of I/Os and big cruisers that we had before we looked into wake boats, we missed having a boat that was really enjoyable to drive around. The G23 was also kind of a pain to clean, and the wet ride got old pretty quick (yes, I know the 2016 hull is a little dryer). When we test drove the SE, it seemed like it had the best of both worlds. The wake performance seemed to be on par with the G23, (I actually prefer the surf wave of the SE to the G) and it is so much more enjoyable to drive. Honestly, I don’t know how Supra does it, but if you haven’t driven one of the new Supras and you value a really nice driving boat, I definitely recommend giving one a test drive. The SE also has a much dryer ride, the build quality is just as good as the Nautique, and there are a few little things like better interior lighting, and real physical switches when you don’t feel like messing around on a touch screen that we didn’t know we needed until we had them. Yes, there are things we miss about the G23, like the fully underfloor ballast and the resulting endless storage, but overall, it seems like the SE meets our needs a little better than the G23.
