Custom ordered boats
How many days does a new boats take start to finish?
Just wondering what people have been told or experienced when ordering. Year, make, model and how many days or weeks? Delivery too if you want. |
Depends on brand and model...heard Malibu builds a boat in 4 days, Centurion is 2 weeks I think...sure it depends some on model. Trick question is how many boats have to be built before yours hits the line. Personally I prefer it takes them longer cause has to be better QC that way.

Three weeks has been the average for us from centurion. Once construction starts it usually arrives at my dealer three weeks later.

7-10 work days on most boats. Then delivery can take another week
|
It depends on when you order. If you order in the winter while the mfgers are filling dealer inventory orders for the next season, you could wait months.
|
The actual production of the boat is probably about 1 week, but there is much more to it...
Dealers usually have build slots/dates pre arranged. That date might be November 29th. Hence it will take a week from that date to be complete. Then they might have to pair it with a trailer. Then they might have to wait until there are a few other boats slotted to go to the same dealer so they can all go on a truck together. So it would probably take a few months for a special order unless your dealer has a slot that is soon and they can change it to a custom order for you and they have a truck coming their way to deliver it. Make sense? |
My2016 MB took 6 weeks from order placed to delivery. Seemed like forever!

4 days on Malibu. When I orderedmine back in 2006 it took 7 days.
I agree that I would want a boat to take longer hoping that the quality was better in the long run. |

Diggs Hit the nail on the head, his post is real world accurate. How long it actually takes really is less important than what the dealer has access to. He has assigned build slots. If there is one close and its just going to be a stock boat you might get your boat in a month. I know for Tige Trailers and boats are shipped separate from each manufacturer and put together at the dealer. But the boats always come 3-4 to a truck so slots are grouped. So pulling a slot doesn't always work as your boat might sit waiting for others for a month.
If your dealer doesn't have any build slots in the near future you could wait a while. The can sometimes try to get other dealers to swap and things like that. Delivery is also based on your location to the factory. Trucks by law can only go so far per day(I know they run 3 sets of log books)...so shipping varies. There is no right or set answer to this. If you oder now you boat will be ready for spring. Try to order in March-May and your likely to wait a couple months. Manufacturers MAKE dealers take so many winter slots, then dealers BEG for slots come March-May(post boat show).... |
Just had my 2018 23 LSV and it took 7 days, Shipped out the following week,
|
Just put it our order Saturday. Boat sprays in December so we expect delivery in January

Production techniques are also very different, from brand to brand. I have only toured Malibu, Master Craft, and Centurion. So I can't speak for Supra or Nautique. Hull construction example: Centurion uses Vacuum infusion, most expensive/best results, Master Craft CNC cuts all fiberglass and weighs it to make sure everything is appropriate, Malibu cuts it off of a roll and trims it by hand. @h20king that is awesome! My dealer has one in stock that is similar, it is GORGEOUS! |
Just took delivery of a new SeaVee 390V, Quad 350 Verados.
Put a deposit down last October for a March layup. Took delivery five days ago. That's ~13 months from deposit to delivery. Of course this is a full on custom off shore fish killing machine. The hull stays in the mold over two weeks. Pic is web sourced but close to ours except we have white 350s. All my pics are on my phone. https://www.seaveeboats.com/wp-conte...-1706x1138.jpg |
Wow! Nice boat, Baitkiller. Quad 350s?! You've got as much ( or more) $ into engines as most of us have into our entire boats! I bet that thing is a ton of fun offshore.
