old bike hub help
2 Attachment(s)
Ten years later Im still looking for a new rear hub for my 1989 Swiss Army Bike. It is an Edco Competition 36 hole, 7 speed cassette type. Bike is older than the dudes working in bike shops so Im looking for suggestions as to any hub that will work and where can I get one?
Pics attached. thanks. |
Might want to ask this at bikeforums.net.

Thanks, I just know theres allot of bike nuts here too and ive been a member soo long. Il check over there.

is it a mountain bike or road bike? Presumably mtb if 36H.
the amount of rust on that wheel suggests to me that a replacement wheel (not just hub) is in order and that once you put a new wheel on, that the rest of the bike is going to rust away before your eyes. Here's a wheelset: https://www.velomine.com/index.php?m...oducts_id=4999 |
Sitting in my garage in FL for 10 years plus with a busted hub. The world had moved on. Trying to save the black ceramic rims but may have to go with a wheel set. Thank you.
|
what kind of rims are they? There are loads of rim choices these days that are better than the best of 1989. What's the frame material (steel, aluminum, carbon)?
|
Thank you for your help. I purchased the wheel set you linked and they work just fine. Turned out the front hub was also broken in the same way. Very odd.

Awesome but this thread is useless without a pic of you riding a Swiss army wheelie! [emoji12] |

I know right? I was riding wheelies and doing brake stands all up and down the street but nobody came out to take picture.. Maybe next time. Here she is, back in biz..

sweet rig. Are those hydraulic canti brakes? Would ove to see some close ups. That seat tube angle is crazy slack! It's cool to see mtbs from this era when everyone was doing things differently.
|
Yep, hydraulic rim crushers and they stop like love, some of the trials guys still use them. . Leather saddle and spoke generator lighting. Like the derailleur guard?

Racks hold a twelve pack fwd and a stack of pizza boxes rear.

Cool looking vintage bike.
