A22 Wetsounds install pics
I've posted pics here and there, but figured I might as well start a new thread on my stereo install I've been working on. I'm going to install the amp rack tomorrow in the boat and get it all wired up, as well as the 420SQ and hopefully start tuning. I also have the XXXv2 in the dual slotted wetsounds box, so I'll fire it a few different ways to figure out which sounds the "best", and build another box for permanent. I'll post up pics as I go along.

Impressive! Fine job!
That amp rack looks fabulous!! great job!
I forgot to say, there will be a 1/4 " sheet of acrylic over the amps, which explains what the standoffs are for...
I kinda figured that's what you were doing..
it looks like the amps are mounted on acrylic as well. what did you use for LED's underneath and how are they situated? Also, where did you get the vinyl to cover the rack? |

I used 3/8" acrylic and cut out the shapes of my amps, and then cut the insides out to where it's only 1 1/2" across and round the corners. Than I glued led strips inside them, and sanded the edges of acrylic to frost them. I actually stole the amp ring idea from mike ( chpthril) on my last amp rack for my last boat, so props to him for building awesome installs :o I called my local upholster and had him order 2 yds of black carbon fiber $45 and I have plenty to cover a sub trim panel |
Looks great! Thanks, Cant wait to see it installed along with the sub box!
Great job man. Keep up the good work so we can see the finished product!
Thanks guys. Just finished it up. Holes lined up perfectly surprisingly :) a sharp paddle bit drills thru the acrylic perfectly btw.

The interior colors look great with the LEDs. Why have the acrylic on the top? Did you get that idea from a pic? Mark Mark Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Bryce - looking good!!
how do you plan to attach the amp rack to the boat? Im assuming it will be vertical along the hull somewhere. My only complaint (and this is just me cause what you have built looks fantastic) is the Wetsound Emblems are not all pointing the same direction.. that would drive me nuts. OCD I guess  |
Russ,
the emblems can be indexed, so dont sweat the OCD |
Mikes right on. My complaint is the emblems badges can be rotated no problem, but the problem is finding an allen wrench small enough to fit the heads. They are f'n tiny! I will have to buy a new set of allen wrenches with one the right size. M
Mark, thanks. I had planned on putting an acrylic front on this amp rack for a long time now, and when I saw Nicks install on Lee's G23, I knew I definitely had to have it. Nick did an awesome job. It'll keep stuff off the amps, and I can etch a logo, or put a decal on the acrylic and the light wont shine thru it and really stand out when the LEDs are on....... Im hoping anyways! |
The amp rack is in the OB compartment under the glove box area. Axis fiberglasses a board on the bottom and top to mount the amp rack too. I'll just use a few black screws right under and right on top of the amp to mount it. Hopefully you won't even notice them.

You should Frost the Bottom Plexi Pieces That way the entire plexi will glow green and not just the Edges. Plus the etched surface will make it harder for you to see the led dot dot dot strip
With the covers on the amps, all you see is the edges and I frosted those, and it definitely dissipates the light.
Sick!!
Great looking install!
Looks great Bryce!
How much did the 3d # set u back?
A whomping 50 bucks :D
$50 bucks is cheap for that cool-factor.
Compared to the thousands of dollars we spend on after market stereos, speakers, lights, ballast changes, etc. Mark |
Exactly. A must have IMO.
This is just plain sick man!! Thumps up job
Thanks for all the kind words. I plan on working on it all night tomorrow until I get it done. I got my wetsounds under dash mount and blue tooth today! My 3 breakers for the 0 gauge to each amp will be here tomorrow. Im hoping to have completed pics tomorrow night! Minus the sub box. I also need to figure out where I want to stick 3 more batteries for my stereo bank.

Got the system up and going Friday afternoon and spent Friday evening and Saturday on the water. Boarded for probably an hour or so Friday night. It was awesome, except the water was 39 in the middle , and 49 in the shallows. 70* air so it was all good. The compartment under the helm is so damn small. I'll have to reroute hoses, and maybe move the heater to get my box far enough in there. I fired the sub and port towards the hull , and the bass sounded muddy IMO , and way better direct radiating. I was pretty impressed with the XXXv2 honestly. There's a cubby hole under the throttle that the 420SQ fits perfect in. I need to pull the plastic panel out where I can drill holes and screw the 420 down where its flush with the top. That'll be a chore in pretty sure. Everything else is basically done. Need to do some cleaning and small stuff but here's what I've got so far. Still need to rotate the badges on the amps

Will do. Hopefully I'll tackle it next weekend. I couldnt get the plastic panel off to drill holes to mount it. Im thinking the cushion behind the drivers seat has to come off, to get the last screw out of the plastic piece where the throttle is.
What did you end up doing with the sub box?? I can't get any impressive base out of my A22. I have the same wetsounds gear you have.
I'm going to be building a single flare port box to put under the helm. The wetsounds dual ported box is to deep for my boat, so I'll be building one 20" wide x 15" deep x 16" tall. Than a 3" flare port 9"s long will tune it to 41hz and net volume at 1.57 ft^3. I've been slacking and haven't made any more progress. Hopefully next weekend I can post more pics. I'd get an SD2 for your sub too. Syn 4 is definitely not god amp you want on the XXX v2
Figured I'd follow up on this build now that it's basically finished.
I moved the 420 SQ under the ignition and added the wetsounds Bluetooth in their new under dash mount. Turned out pretty clean IMO. The new sub box has blow me away. I doubted the XXXv2 and regretted buying it in the dual ported box. I talked with Simon at WS and since we mainly listen to country, I tuned at 41hz with a precision port kit. That XXXv2 absolutely pounds and will wear you out sitting in the drivers seat. Sounds great doing it too, and I haven't even tuned on the amp any besides my original settings that got it really close to where it needs to be. I got a video but it does no justice. Ill post up the spec sheet to the box, because anyone that listens to country, red dirt, and rock, I think 41hz is the way to go. Haven't used the Bluetooth yet but I'm sure the sound quality will be great from what I hear. The system in this thing is ridiculous. |

Is the program you use free? If so do you have a link to it.
Bryce, looks fantastic! Very sharp
Thx for the props on the amp rack! Nick will be pumped u mentioned us! I love the cover over my amps. They stay clean and looks so different than other installs. |
ffmedic74, that program is the Torres box builder and tuning App. You can search it and download for free. I however don't recommend it. I downloaded it and there is a ton of "freeware" and hoops to jump through. It took forever and was a total PIA. Having said that it does work nicely afterward.
