Need help deciding - Malibu SV23 hull VLX/Vride or Nautique SV-211
Mostly wake boarding - crew of 5-6 people
Need a reliable boat that will last and give a good wake at 17-18 mph for beginners and 22-4mph intermediate riders |
Even though I own a G23 and nautique fan I've ridden the sv211 a dozen or more times over the years and didn't like it. Get the Malibu. Just too much ski built into the hull, the boat is NOTHING like the 210

the sv211 is one of the hardest wake boarding wakes I've ever ridden.. one of my best friends on here Mikeski has one and would rather ride behind my Malibu than his own boat.

if you go 'bu, get the VLX. skip the Vride.
SV211 wake is finicky thats for sure. Have ridden behind 2. Neither owner was sure how to load weight to get the best wake out of them. |
Centurion Avalanche Nothing will handle rough water better and throw a wicked wakeboard wake.
I own a Nautique I would def not recommend the SV 211 to someone who wakeboards first. I would try and find a Malibu 23LSV to get the most boat for the cash. It's definitely an under the radar wakeboat that handles bigger water ok. |
How would it compare to a 2009 Moomba Mobius LSV for $31k ??
|
The wakeboard wake is steeper , meatier , and requires less weight than the möbius LSV. The avalanche will be more sensitive on people placement than the möbius . But that's the trade off of the deeper v. The möbius will have the better low speed beginner wake, but the avy will have the better high caliber wake when fully loaded. You won't get the act clean below 20-21
The 22ve is also a great price point choice. Tons of room , storage and is solid in rough water . Wakeboard wake is decent. Little more on the mellow side with not as much lip |
At 30k I'd throw danger in there too. Depending on where you're at of course. But they handle great and throw a really good wakeboard wake.

I own an 03' VLX with sv23 hull. I loaded my down with a little over 3K lbs and no wedge. I also have 2 other friends with the same era VLX's. Produces a pretty awesome wake for a boat of that era. For under 30K, I think it's hard to beat unless you can scoop up a steal on a SV25 VLX (05-08).

As someone who has owned an SV23 hull and owns a 2005 VLX on the V25 I would say hold out for one really hard unless you ski.
The 2005 is a much larger boat with a much larger wake (and much better surf wake too). Mine is still solid as a rock at 1240 hours. I bought it Feb 2016 for 26k (from a dealer even). In 2016 when I was looking over ten boats came up nationwide under 30k. You gotta jump on them day of. And as someone else said the 2004 LSV has the V25 hull too. |
in my opinion for wake board you cant go wrong with the vlx. I have an 04, with the wedge and ballast. It throws the best wake ive ridden behind, my buddies will always choose to ride in my boat over theirs to wake board. It also has been weighted right it has a nice long surf wake. you can find 03-05 vlx for around 34k. We currently also ride behind 05 supra, Moomba mojo, Mastercraft, centurion and axis, all of those owners will wake board behind my boat when they want to do tricks. It produces a sick wake. From what ive ridden behind, if you want a good wake and heavy chop handling go centurion or Moomba 23 ft, but In my opinion you will sacrifice A LOT of wake board wake. I don't know if this is true, but my buddy who works for supra has told me that the VLX for Malibu has always been the tow boat for wake board competitions, that's the reason I bought it. And now due to surgeries im slowly moving more into SURF HA.

How about throwing an '07 SANTe 210 into the mix?
or do they need 22-3 to get a clean wake? It looks like most would prefer the seating layout of a 2003 VLX or Nautique 211 over the 210 |
I own the 211 and gotta agree with what has been said. It's a finiky hull that tries to transition to small wakes at speeds over 24MPH. The hull is fairly narrow and it has some strakes and other pockets under the hull designed to help the slalom wake. The wake can get steep and tall with weight but it has a nasty trough and very short ramp (some similarities to an improperly weighted early 210). I was hoping for the best of both worlds but it's more like halfway to nowhere. It does surf fairly well compared to old standards. Even 10 years ago the VLX, SV23, VTX, V-ride had a superior boarding wake, from MC an X-star (gen 2) or X45 produce superior wakes (sorry I don't prefer the X30 or X10 wakes over mine). Any boarding boat with a 100"+ beam designed after 2008 will generally produce a better wake than a 211 or gen 1 X-star.
