Tower Speakers
 

Hello all, just wondering what kind of tower speakers would be good for my new (to me) boat. Its a centurion t5 direct drive as im a skier first. It would be amazing to be able to hear the music (preferably clearly) while at the handle ~70 feet out. The amp on the boat is good enough to handle and I would like to keep it sorta budget but any suggestions would help due to the fact that i have little experience with sound equipment.

$1150 a set and you can get them direct from wetsounds . Chances are though that the amp you have is not going to be good enough for a set of rev 10's

No... That's really not a good option. this is a standard interior speaker in a tower can. You will NOT be able to hear this 70' back..maybe at surf distance, thats about it!

I would strongly recommend Wetsounds Rev 8 or 10. You will pay around $1100 for them but you only need one pair with a good 300-400 watts per speaker...Thats it!

If you're looking for a budget friendly HLCD, it's hard to beat the Kicker KM6500.2 setup. You'll need 4 cans for your tower (6.5"), plus the speakers below:

Yes, the Kicker KMS65 (old number is the KM6500.2) is a great setup. Drive them with a solid 200-250 watts rms.

If you got the money then Wetsounds are probably going to be your route. If you want something more affordable, I'd go with Kicker. I have six of these on my tower and 4 inside the boat:

$389 for a full tower HLCD setup is LEGIT.

I went the budget route on my first boat. Wish I would have skipped that and went straight to wetsounds. Would have enjoyed the boat more when I had it, and would have saved money because I ended up with wetsounds anyway.
Also, I can't imagine how harsh a 6.5 hlcd would sound. It might get loud, but it sure doesn't seem like it would be pleasant

wetsounds look like the best option. Would two rev 10s be enough to hear while at rope lenght? or just the 410? even a threesome? and also just wondering what kind of installation would be and how intense it would be to diy any tips help, trying to get the most out of the boat

1 pair of rev10's should rock. It'll be louder than a 410, because you have 2 individual horns on the 10s, vs 1 horn on the 410. But at mid range I prefer the sound of the 410, more mid bass. A 3some is what I wish I went with instead of 2pr of rev10's. Best of both worlds imo. But that put me in different amp territory for what i already had.
Imo if you want to hear it at wake range, but also surf and float around. Go with the 3some

for sure you can hear a set of rev 10s at rope length with the right power to them. I did my own install its not hard at all if you are handy

I have a brand new Pr of Rev 8's in the box and a Syn4 that are for sale. never installed, I sold my boat before I got a chance to use them. Hit me up if you are interested.

Take a look at all three good luck just like boats people tend to be fanboys of what they own.

I have a set of Kicker KM6500.2 HLCDs. They're loud enough and fit the budget I was working with at the time. Rev10s sound much better though.

Yeah, it's hard to beat the kicker HLCD's for budget. and like was said previously, $389 for a HLCD setup is about the best budget option you'll get. I have the kicker 6500.2 and am upgrading it with another pair of cans and another pair of mids for the "six pack". It only cost me another $230 to get into the additional cans and mids.

I'm going to give it a try powering them with the Precision Power P-600.2 and see how it does.

The Kicker is the only 6.5" HLCD worth considering. Very good individual parts. It's thin sounding with a single pair of midbass drivers, even with the horn in the attenuated position. But when you add the second pair of midbass drivers it is in contention with a pair of 8" HLCDs. The only downside I see is that it takes six pods versus two. But for some it might be a great way to populate the tower.

I previously ordered the "same setup" from the ebay vendor half price car audio. I ordered those for $178.85 and was SO EXCITED. Turns out they dont have them and instead set me just a pair of 6.5" kicker speakers... even though i confirmed with them via email like 6 times. FML.

If the Rev's are out of your budget, look into the WEt Sounds Icon8's.


Before you buy anything, CALL WET SOUNDS AND ASK FOR THE NEAREST DEALER!

Recommendations on here are a dime a dozen. While I agree with most, I've heard most of what was posted. I'm not much on Kicker or Exile though. You need to HEAR the speakers for yourself. Don't just put a budget on something and go buy. You're expectations may be different then ours.

Find a dealer, demo them for yourself.

They sent me an email today after they took my money that these were back ordered and that I am SOL... just awesome.

The link says page not found, but knowing them, they are likely a discontinued model and they are sold out. Thats a far cry from back ordered.

That's why you don't buy from hackjob places like that!

Sonic Electronix, Dynamic Autosound, hifisoundconnection, and a few others - all they do is get your money, then sell a product that they ARE NOT a dealer for. That means there's no warranty!

I bought my kicker 6500.2 setup from them for like 190 bucks or something. Was on my doorstep in like 3 days. They've been running that deal for 2+ years.

From the sounds of it they dont stock the items they offer on their website. They act as the middle men on the transaction. They were super fast on withdrawing the funds but not so fast on the refund side. :mad:

And just try to get ahold of their tech support center when you have an install setup or tuning question or need to know the best way to an amp in your boat with dual batteries.

Also when i have been looking at the kicker hlcds im kinda confused. are there two horns and two woofers? what comes with the package?

They are component HLCD's. You get two 6.5" mid-bass woofers and two horn loaded compression drivers. Its a 4 pod setup.

would that setup and another amp make it so i can hear at rope length? and any suggestion for cans? i have a 2006 centurion t5 comp in red and white

Tyler and Ben, that's why you need to quit internet shopping. Go find a reputable dealer. These online hackjob places will sell you ANYTHING! A properly setup system isn't bought online, it's recommended by a knowledgeable dealer. If you're unsure and have questions, find a dealer to answer those questions. Get out and talk to people.

My vote would be properly powered Wet Sounds REV8 or REV10 if you want something that can be clearly heard at wake distance. They will cost more than most other options and they will be heard clearly at wake distance where most other options will not. It's your money, I say spend it once and love your boat, don't spend it twice by going cheap and then having to do it a second time.

I also suggest that you either (a) purchase from a local brick and mortar store who you trust based on your experience with them and who is an authorized dealer that can offer full support after the sale, or (b) purchase from an online retailer who is an authorized online seller and who has a good reputation for excellent customer service after the sale. You don't want to spend that much money and then be left out in the dark if you need service or assistance with installation, setup or tuning after your purchase.

EBAY has always worked well for me. Just always make sure to take a glance at their feedback first.

Some of us can't afford anything local or have the time because there isn't anything close by. All the store that would carry this kind of stuff are an hour and a half away.
