2014 Tige Z3-can the 350 HP Monsoon do it?

I am looking into this boat with the custom wake 9 sacs and pro ballast. I found a great deal including a trade in for my MXZ. Needless to say this is a lot of weight.

I am concerned that the 350 HP monsoon won't be able to handle this much weight.

Any thoughts/experiences out there?

What elevation are you going to be using your boat at?

boardman74 11-02-2013 4:29 PM

I don't believe its the Monsoon motor. I'm pretty sure its the old indmar MCX. Anyhow it is rated at 350 hp.

Plenty of guys up here running Z3's with the 343 hp PCM(2013 motor) They are running plenty of weight and aren't having issues. Most have switched to the 1235 prop. Like Robert asked what elevation. If you are somewhere higher elevation it might not be enough. Lower areas I'm thinking you will be just fine. I know a guy who is a pro surfer running a Z3 with Pro ballast plus 1100 envo style sac in the surf side and have never heard him complain.

A Monsoon is malibu engine and a Z3 is a Tige boat and the 2 will never meet. A Z3 with a 5.7L would be a PCM 343HP

Are you trading in the 22MXZ you just bought 2 days ago?

For surfing, the PCM 343 is prfect, but the factory prop is the weak spot when heavily loaded. No amount of HP or torque will fix a slipping prop.

I believe he is talking about the 2014 Z3 with the indmar 350 hp. But its not the same as the monsoon engine Malibu uses even though both are indmar. I was told its the Engine Mastercraft used to use as the "MCX". Tige calls it the M57.

I live in Michigan so elevation not an issue

The boat has the 350 indmar. Tige changed to indmar for 2014. I am used to Malibu so I assumed it was a monsoon

I didn't buy my MXZ two days ago. I bought it this past spring

boardman74 11-02-2013 7:15 PM

Its not the same engine as the monsoon. They are a malibu thing.

The 350 should be fine for you. I am in Minnesota and people are running them heavy just fine with the 343 PCM from 13. The new 350 Indmar in the 14's should do just fine.

shawndoggy 11-02-2013 9:13 PM

aside from the badging, how is an mcx or M57 or generic 5.7L that's in the MBs different from a monsoon?

rallyart 11-02-2013 9:29 PM

You're fine with 350 hp. However, I have never heard anyone complain that they have too much power and I here many complain that they should have gone for more. The only time more HP cost money, aside from the day you buy it, is if you are running at WOT for top speed.

It's the M57. As in monsoon 5.7 lol. Same exact engine. 350 will do it for surfing heavy but that's about it. If I were you I'd go 450.

Monsoon is nothing more than a badging thing. It is the same motor.

My bad, I had you mixed with another Bu owner that just picked up an MXZ a couple days ago.

Yeah, if you are looking at a brand new 2014, then it could have an Indmar, but could have a PCM if it was an early 2014 and Tige still have some PCMs left in the house.

Any harm in getting the PCM? Any preference?

surffresh 11-03-2013 10:45 AM

You should wait and see what Indmar releases in two days…if it's a true game changer it could bring a lot back to the table or make your decision process even more difficult

Ford 6.2L/Ford Eco Boost/ CVT. :D

bhsupra22v 11-03-2013 7:40 PM

Just got my 2014 Z3 with the LS3... I suggest that style...

timmyb 11-04-2013 8:42 AM

That engine will be fine for surfing but I think if you are loading it up and wakeboarding that you might want to pick a different engine. I drove a Z3 with the PCM 343 up here at 5200' loaded up for surfing and it was fine for that but no way would I want a wakeboarder hanging out on the rope for half the lake waiting to get to wakeboarding speed.

bruizza 11-04-2013 10:42 AM

If all you do is surf it will be fine. If you ever want to load up all the ballast and wakeboard there is a good chance it won't plane out if you have a good size crew.

11-04-2013 11:33 AM

usually 5-6 adults max. surf 90% of the time. wakeboarders are beginner to intermediate

350 indmar ok?

timmyb 11-04-2013 11:35 AM

I think you should be fine with how you are using it. Have them throw in a prop upgrade just to make sure. Acme 1235 should be decent for that boat.

CarFanatic5 11-04-2013 2:15 PM

I just ordered a 14 Z3 with the 350 motor. I ordered it with the acme 1235. I demoed a z1 with the 350 in it, and it had plenty of power for me. I also will be running wake 9 sacs. Thats why I got the 1235 prop.
