Mastercraft fuel pump problems, Need Help!!

I have a 2003 Mastercraft 280 vld with the 8.1 Inmar liter engine and I think my fuel pump just went bad. I pulled the fuel pump and ran the serial numbers but came up with nothing the number on it was 71-339 and is made by carter. Any suggestions on where i can find a replacement pump asap or rebuild the pump. Thanks!

Thanks alot edgar, was just curious what that part number is ? is it a replacement or a rebuild? Is it marine grade?

Take it to your dealer and they will replace the fuel pump module for $700.

Autozone DIY for less than $100.

There is a huge thread on TMCowners about it.

You know why this happened, don't you?

In the $100 DIY what does that all come with? And why does this happen? Thanks alot for the response!

When I call autozone they say that nothing shows up with the part number #2044. Are there any other numbers i need to tell them ? how do i describe it? thanks

This is what I am talking about. You don't have to read all 18 pages or whatever. The meat is all in the first few pages.

Same thing happened with my Indmar/Malibu fuel pump. I had read that it was a pump made by carter and I found it a NAPA for 150. I had several dealers tell that it was an AC Delco pumps and I needed to buy it from them prices ranging from 260 to 400.

Pulled the old pump and it was indeed an orig carter pump from the factory. Sometimes dealers can me dishonest or misleading to get a sale

These are the part numbers for the fuel pumps:
AC Delco EP356
Airtex E2044
NAPA P74118

I used a Bosch pump that cross referenced as compatible with the EP356 at my local Napa auto parts. About 20 hours on it so far and all is good.

It's pretty sad that us MC owners have to worry about getting below 1/2 tank of fuel because of fuel pump problems

Double check your connection going into the tank. Mine acted as if the fuel pump was going out. It turned out the connection was bad at the coupler. Cleaned it up and all was good.
