My friend: "The only way you get in trouble in college football is being caught with either a live boy or a fake dead girl."

My cousin: "I haven't seen a Mormon come up with a lie this elaborate since Elder Cunningham created "The Book of Arnold"."

greatest sports story in the history of the world!

my theory: he's gay, and this was an elaborate cover up that went south after his relationship with the tuisosopo kid went south.

Thank you Jesus that Johnny Football got the Heisman.....this would have stunk worse then it does already. Just fess up.....what the heck is this world coming to......why even use the WORD girlfriend if you haven't met them in person....holy crap....and I just thought Honey Boo Boo made me shake my head the other night.... :(

God bless Johnny Football... he has actually met his girlfriend in person. Manti was overrated. He will probably be an NFL bust and obviously has some "issues'.

I think Train has a good hypothesis. Couldn't a star linebacker at ND pull some very, very seriously hot tail? There is no question. Also, I think he will admit to lying about stories of meeting her in person because he was embarrassed to say he was involve with an internet freak he had never met in person. How many 20 something year olds don't have a FB profile? Manti never Googled his "girlfriend" or "love of his life" to find pictures, a Classmates profile or a FB page? I think the dude probably had something to do with this hoax. Again, thank god this fraud didn't win the Heisman. That would have been awful!

This boggles my mind...someone so in love and never even met her. I dont get it.

He has some deep down issues if he was involved in this.

Have you guys ever seen the show catfish on MTV. The show is about all these idiots that fall in love with someone online that they have never met. Then they get to meet the person and almost everytime it ends up to be someone totally different then the person they thought it would be. It seems so crazy to me but there are a lot of people that do this.
Maybe I am just old but this society is just way to caught up in social networking.

Latest hoax out of South Bend involves a decades long relationship that Notre Dame has claimed to have with someone named "Jesus", who may or may not have been real. There are questionable reports of a death some years ago, but investigators have yet to turn up a Twitter account, a FB page or any proof that this person ever existed.

If American Idol has taught me anything it is that you can be a great singer, but if your sister doesn't have cancer you won't go far.

Does he have an obligation to be honest about his personal life with the public? It was a great story and provided a little additional drama. His football playing was real--or so we think... Just kidding. In a world of reality TV and phoney social media what is our expectation for honesty from our entertainers? Did the drama add to the experience?

I'm not a football fan nor do I care much about the story. I'm just throwing it out there as a question.

It was a human interest story hoax to drum up Heisman votes. He was in on it from the start.
