I was wondering who breaks down their boat towers to store their boats and how many people have garages or storage that are big enough to store with the tower up.

At the boat show there was a dealer that seemed to shrug off the need to fold down a tower. He seemed to be trying to convince me that folding down a tower isn't very common. I figured he was full of it since 99% of the houses in OKC have a regular 6'10" garage door height.

Just about everybody I know stores their boat with their tower down. As a dealer, I try to make that a selling point with my boat if I see they are going to keep it in their garage. I point out how easy our towers are to fold down.
|
yea i fold mine down
if it didnt fold i would never find a garage or indoor storage big enough
|
I don't want to know who you talked to at the show, but my shed over at T-bird has a 10' door and I still have to drop it to make it in.

Some towers even when folded won't clear 6'10"...

DE.50, we'll need to hook up and ride soon as it warms up some.

I don't know about the houses in your area but there are not many houses in my area (California) that are deep enough to store the boat!

|
Rod-

Some builders in the area have 21' to 23' deep garages. Most builders also offer a three car tandem setup, looks like a two car but one side is twice as deep.

Land is cheap and so is labor...
|
"Land is cheap and so is labor..."
Doug...of course it is, you live in Oklahoma. California is a little different.

depoint50ae...we have to lay ours down.

Thanks for the insight Tate. I was completely unaware of the ridiculous housing prices in CA. (I lived in Los Altos Hills growing up)

Does anyone know how tall a 2005 X-STAR on the trailer?
I have heard to things 7’ 2” and I have heard 7’ 10”

John
I was completely unaware of the ridiculous housing prices in CA.

the prices aren't ridiculous, it's just the unofficial tax we pay for it being feb 8, 77*, clear, with 20% humidity.

Doug I love the profile pic! It would be sweet to hit up god old Draper or dirty bird with you some time if you don't mind a total NOOB tagging along!!

Hopefully I will get to enjoy a little of the warm weather before I ship out to Japan. I move in June and will spend most of the month of May seeing friends and family before we move. I am stoked to get teh orders but I wish I could move in September!!!

I figured the salesman probably just didn't know the answer to my question and just made that BS up! Oh well.

I store mine up. My garage is tall enough that I am able to store it in the up right position. When I had the house built we made sure the boat had enough room ceiling wise as well as length. I hate to say it, but I baby my boat more than my cars.

Brannon

I have never folded my tower down.

Tower down. 23 foot garage, 7 foot high door, swim platform removed and swing away tongue.

I've had three boats with towers and probably twice that many storage places I've kept them. Never been able to store my boat with the tower up except inside a warehouse.

I also recently learned if your pulling your boat up a steep ramp into a warehouse, and the trailer is dragging and skidding up the ramp, and your attention is on the trailer, and the door is not raised quite all the way, that the light bar loses the battle against the door in a big way :-)
|
I just rented a storage unit and the door way was right at 10 feet. I had to fold the tower to get it inside cause it was about an inch to high to leave up.

tower up...

Dave is your door tall enough that you can back your boat in with the tower up? I can tell from the angle of the pic. I was more trying to figure out how many people have large enough doors for the tower to be up when they back their boats into the garage. Non of the normal houses in OK have tall garage doors.

What is the average height of the tower from the ground when boats are trailered?
|
Randy - I like your support, did you notch it for the tower tube?
|
I built a garage in my backyard the garage is 30'deep 40'wide.I made it so the doors are 11'h x 16'w. I can put the boat in the garage with the tower up and do not have to swing the tong of the trailer around. I designed the garage to fit my nautique 226. You can order clopay garage doors up to 12'high from steelbuilding.com
|
depoint50ae,

Yes, the boat backs in with the tower up. The door is 12' high.

Sorry about the double post. Can a mod delete the first one please.

|
Bryan, that support is not notched. It is something I just put together quick. As soon as I get a chance, I'm going to make a modified version.
