Old school supra surfing - drone vid

I've been filming and editing a bunch of videos lately. I recently sold my Centurion Avalanche which had a MACKIN surf wave, and replaced it with a 1987 Supra. While it doesn't surf anywhere close to the same, it still get's the job done. Plus, it's old school cool.

Check out this video I made on Lake Anna, VA earlier this week.

I'm looking for people that want to collaborate on filming too…If you've got an idea for a shoot feel free to message me.

Nice work, and good looking ol boat! What drone did you use to film?

Cool video, I like the drone shots. It seems like it was pretty far away most of the time though, is that just the camera, or was it actually way up there?
I used to rock it behind an old school Supra as well. What kind of setup are you running? We got a pretty sweet wake out of a 92 Sunsport with two 750s on either side of the dog house, a bag under the rear seat, custom platform, and a manual NSS setup.

The whole thing was filmed with the drone. It was pretty far away for most of the shots except the ones where you see it panning up onto the boat. I was filming from shore, first time with this particular drone. I've had others of the exact same model, but this particular one flies slower so it was a learning curve as I was trying to figure out how different it flew compared to the last one while we were trying to get some basic shots in the hour window we had before the sun went down.

The old Supra is surprising me. It's been a cool project. It's not the best rough water boat by any means, but it throws a great wakeboard wake, and a surfable wake surf wave. I initially tried to put 3000# in it, and it didn't love that at all. It likes about 800# in whatever surf side corner and thats about it to be remotely clean. I've put counter weight, weight up front, weight on the platform. It was all really washed out. I'm going to re-prop it, and make a custom platform. Not sure about the manual NSS setup. What did you do?

I added blades to the stern to facilitate delayed convergence of the waves, and allow allowed for more/equal weighting and changes from regular to goofy in under 10 seconds.

^Don't forget the custom platform. That played a huge part in the wake as well.

Edit: With the exception that you actually are able to get a pad to stick onto HDPE. It was successfully done on the custom platform for the XLV.

Nice work. I know it takes a lot of time to put together a decent edit. Keep up the good work.

is there a video screen on the controller you look at or something? Been wanting to get a drone. I fly rc helicopters.

PureWakesurfing1 04-17-2015 11:18 AM

Yes, I use first person view. There are many applications for FPV flight, each drone varies as to what is needed to set up.

cool thanks!
