Two Nights in Austin - what to do?

I will be spending two nights in Austin next week (Tues 11/23 and W. 11/24). Any suggestions on what to see and/or do? I will be in a hotel right at 6th street so that will be fun. Any recommendations for a particular club? I can do country but prefer rock/metal. I will also have a car so if there is anything outside of Austin that is a must see please let me know. I plan on getting my fill of TexMex while I'm in town. Where would you recommend? Anything else I should know about Austin? Hoping to make the most of my time while I am there. Thanks for your ideas!

www.austinchronicle.com and www.austin360.com are good places to find shows if you want to do live music. Take a stroll around Town Lake and end up at the Congress St. bridge near sundown to see the bats. There are a ton of great restaurants downtown or near downtown - Roy's, Fleming's, Eddie V's, Roaring Fork, Uchi, Gumbo's, Matt's El Rancho, Chuy's (the one on Barton Springs), Shady Grove, and Polvo's are some of my favs in that area. The Broken Spoke is a trip. If you have a group and/or just want to take a drive out into the country, The Salt Lick, Gruene Hall, or Coupland Dance Hall can be fun but will probably be pretty dead at that time. The Bob Bullock Texas History Museum is also pretty cool.

Thanks, Trace! Great ideas! I had completely forgotten about the bats! I have to check that out. The links are perfect - all I was finding was stupid Department of Tourism stuff. Sounds like I can keep myself occupied for two nights!
