Quick disconnect for LEDs
Anybody know what I could use for a quick disconnect for some LED's I'm going to place on the kick panel. I would to be able to unhook it if I every need to take the kick panel out to get to the Sub.
My only other option is to just use a lot of extra wire so I could move it out of the way and still have the LED's hooked up. These are single color LED's |
2 pair of insulated male/female crimp connectors.

Thanks
Is 22 gauge the right size wire to use??? |
RGB or one color?
I don't like the crimp connectors... they work but they aren't really made to be put together and taken apart on the regular. For something you may need to take apart on occaision, I'd rather use something like this (which you can find at any auto parts store with their trailer stuff): https://d114hh0cykhyb0.cloudfront.ne...ors-0015-2.jpg |
I don't plan to be taking the kick panel off a lot. But those look good too. I'll go to napa tomorrow and see what I can find.
It's one color LEDs |
Got the disconnects today but the smallest wire the local Napa has is 20 gauge.
Is that going to be to big??? |

your wire can never be too big. too small can be a problem but you could use welding cables on LED's and be fine.
I used JST connectors for all my LED stuff. |
Looks good Russ are you just using flexable clear tubing to hide the Led's.
After I get the basic LED's laid out I would like to go back and do my cup holders. |

Yes, I just used 3/8" plastic tubing with a 1" long piece of 1/4" aluminum dowel to join the two ends.

looks good did you do the same time on the speaker rings.
I got the LEDs wired up and working on the table now just got put them in the boat this week. |
Yep, same thing for the speaker rings. Whole boat cost me under $100.
|
Love it thanks man. I I'm doing the four air vents and the kick panel for the Sub in LED's now. But I think I'm going to add the inboat speakers now and the trailer for sure.
I was alittle intimidated by wiring up the LED's but after soldiering them Up last night I realize it's not that bad. |
Piece of cake!
good luck man! |
Man that is genious! How did you mount them on your speakers?
|
for the time and expense involved, IMHO, you might as well just go RGB. Only a little more soldering, and the controller, LED and wire are all still pretty cheap.

Those JST plus remind me of RC cars ..lol
I have been bitten by the LED bug myself . I see I got some catching up to do . Im going to copy your cup holder set up looks really cool . I put some strips in the boat already and a boat plug light . here my start URL=http://s160.photobucket.com/user/rigid71hd/media/A5A25182-67AF-4569-8C4B-732E0491838C.jpg.html]http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t...2E0491838C.jpg[/IMG] |
I just looked at your pic again its funny because i got blue underwater lighting and red interior lighting as well . you got good style
|
Russ: Where did you get your Led stripes from? Did you buy a roll and cut to length or buy pre-cut pieces?
|
I got mine off amazon. they were about $10 for a 5M roll. just cut to fit.

For RBG, what controllers are people using and is it a separate piece/controller that then connects to the stereo to make it flash/dance with the music?
|
I got my rear vents lit and installed the drives kick panel lights but didn't wire them so I could tie the speaker ring in with those lights. Hope to have pic's soon
