2008 X-Star prop upgrade
 

So I need more low end out of my 6.0L setup. Currently running an OJ 14.75 x 15.5. I am being told by ACME that I should move to the 1285 - 14.5 x 14.25.

I have approximately 800lbs of batteries in the rear compartments and can add an additional 400 a side with the ballast. With the current prop I have a long time to plane and when surfing it is unable to get above 10.8 mph no matter what throttle position.

Do you agree?

Might give our new TZ X5 5-blade a look as well, part number would be 1936-2 or our 14.25 X 14.5.

Wow I was wondering what that battery weight in your build ended up being. I'm assuming that's 400 lbs of batteries per side and then 400 on top of that so 800 per side. If it's 800 per side then 400 on top of that, wow that's some serious rear end ballast!!!

I run 1800 rear and 1250 front in my Xstar, that's PWT plus some sand. I have the OJ 14.75x13 with the MCX and it gets out of the hole great. I had the Acme 1285 previous and with more then 4 people in the boat it wouldn't get up. The OJ for sure has more hole shot. I had more top end with the 1285 but if you are fine with running between 28-32 mph it's a great prop that will rip your arms off.

If it matters I surf with KGB full, starboard at 25% full, port full and and additional 800 lbs on the port side seats, I can still plain out with the surf weight.

I wouldn't disagree with what ACME recommends. They know their job better than you or me. Just sayin'

Why not throw a roots blower on the motor, make an extra 100-150 HP (with a roots blower, that power comes on early), and not have to worry about killing the top speed to next to nothing in order to get on plane?

Obviously the far more expensive route, but something you could be a lot happier about in the end, and adds a bigger WOW factor to the boat as well.

OJ props! Give Eric @ OJ a call, he hooked me up and I could not be happier. I have 3 Acme props, they are not as durable as the OJ and the performance from the OJ is fantastic. ( I have some Acme's for sale if someone wants to PM me, all have been repaired by Delta in Cincy Oh.) Been running the OJ for 3yrs,no dings,no repairs. With the Acme's we avg'd 2 props a season as we occassionaly hit some floatin debris on the river,sticks and stuff and they would start to vibrate.No more with the OJ. Worth every penny. Hope that helps ya some.
